Inspirational Influences
This page is dedicated to the people who inspired me to play drums in the first place, as well as drummers who introduced me to new levels of playing.
Daniel
This would be the biggest influence of all, my father. If he hadn't played drums while I was young, who knows what my obsession might have been? But he did, and I was hooked early on. Even after moving to guitar, he can still play, albeit a little rusty! His compliments still mean the most to me in my playing.
Vinny
Ah, Vinny. Certainly the drummer I have watched and learned from the longest. From a little kid who would watch and tap away on the backs of pews, I finally got the chance to play on his set years ago, and the rest is history. I don't know how happy he is to have to split the drummer chair on Sundays 3 ways now, but I hope he dosen't mind sharing it with me!
Chester Thompson
Chester is the first drummer I really started to try to play along to, with his playing on Genesis, Seconds Out. Huge beats, sweeping fills, forever cymbal rolls, he started to show me the possibilities of drumming, and started my addiction to progressive rock.
Phil Collins
Phil played alongside Chester, and was my favorite drummer for many years. I loved his style, and his approach to the drums. I always wished I had more of his material.
Mike Portnoy
Mike Portnoy. Need I say more? From the first time I saw a picture of his drumset, the Purple Monster, I knew this was someone I had to listen to! And was I ever right! His playing has brought me from wherever I was before, and tripled what I could do. He is my most favorite drummer.
Carter Beauford
This is the only "high-brow" drummer that I've had a chance to meet. I got to see him on a very low down level, as he played with and helped out a local school's jazz band. He is definitely an awesome player, and blows me away everytime I listen to him play. I am shooting to be able to play HALF what he can.
