In that morning's darkness,
A gathering began to grow.
Families,friends,& loved ones,
All refusing to let go.
By the time the sun had reached,
Its highest peak that day.
The empty pier was quiet,
Our fathers' ship was under way.
With longing looks & heavy hearts,
We left them on the pier.
The day we dreaded for so long,
Finally ... it was here.
Months in a place so far away,
Leaving them all alone.
We get a cup of coffee,
To get our minds off home.
Sugar & Spice,
There's nothing nice,
The day they go away.
For daddies in the navy,
Never really get to stay.
Months in a place so far away,
Leaving us, so all alone
Families, friends,& loved ones,
Return to their lonely homes.
