September 1999 - Charlotte, Vermont

Large Pictures take a bit to load but are worth it.

[Vermont Scenery]

Our journey to Vermont was one of true wonder. The beauty compares to Wisconsin and also to Ireland. No wonder those Kehoe's settled in the areas they did.

Doing family research on the Internet brought me to the realization that there was alot to be learned if we made the journey to Vermont. I have joined a few mail lists and put out my plea for help in any way shape or form. From the Chitten CO Rootsweb List [email protected] a kind soul came forward to help in the shape of Buffy. She helped us make the connection from Wisconsin to Charlotte Vermont. She thought maybe there was a Kehoe connection and wondered if I would mind providing her with my phone number to give to this "Kehoe Cousin". Well why not?

Labor Day weekend our phone rang and it was "Cousin Jeannie". We truely were from the same lines and she invited us to contact her when we arrived in Vermont as she offered to share what family history she could. What a wonderful connection. We will always be grateful for Buffy for her efforts thru the net.

[ The B& B]

For our 26th wedding anniversary we flew to New York and rented a car. We booked a very nice B&B thru the net and we settled in for the weekend.

[Linda and Me]

Sister Linda drove up from Boston the next day and it was such fun to share this adventure.

[Ben and Jerry's - I love Dilbert's World! ]

We had time to tour Ben & Jerry's.
[Florence]

And then we did the exciting part. We had the honor of meeting Florence. A direct descendent of our Patrick Kehoe. Florence is a very "young" 90.

[Dan and Florence]

Dan and Florence hit it off immediately. Maybe it was the dry Kehoe humor but they both had a twinkle in their eyes. It was so heartwarming to see them together. I think Florence was reminded of her brother Archie...and I know that Dan was reminded of his family.

[Cousins]

Take a look at these three. This is Dan, Jeannie and John. They must be cousins.

[NOSES]

Just take a look at the famous KEHOE NOSES on these two. What do you think?

[Muffy]

We spent time at the Town Hall and were able to prove out several items that had us curious. Land records and birth records were just a few of the holdings. They were wonderful there and allowed us to make copies of anything we wanted. A small donation helped ease the way.

[The Kehoe House]

This is the Kehoe house is Charlotte Vermont. The owners were kind enough to let us in and showed us the old house plans. They were remodeling and exposing the hand hewn beams in the ceiling.

[The Kehoe House][The original well]

This is the original fireplace and the well that still operates today.

[Patrick and Bridget's Grave][Graveyard]

[Graveyard]

Finding where Patrick and Bridget Kehoe were buried was a very moving experience for us. We had only seen the names over and over in our research. Here was where they were laid to rest. They are just inside the fence of the grave yard of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Established 1858.

[Church][Church]

[Tea Pot and Cup]

According to Florence this Tea pot and cup came over on the boat with Bridget. It was a thrill to see and touch things that were from Ireland. We had so many amazing discoveries while we were there and what fun to share the information that I had gathered.

[Bridget's Pin]

This is a beautiful broach that is said to have been Bridget's.

[Toothpick Holder]

This toothpick holder is another of the Kehoe possessions that has survived throughout the years.

[Dan riding off into the Sunset]

It was a wonderful weekend filled with amazing discoveries and sharing with family. We hope to return and visit again with all the Vermont Kehoe Cousins.
