Driven By Suffering was founded by Marshal McAdams and Brian Looney in December 2001 out of disgust with the state of heavy metal at the time. After looking for a drummer for a few weeks, they encountered a childhood friend, Mark Stevenson playing bass, and a young Biloxi drummer. And so the war began.
After playing constant shows all over the Deep South for over a year, DBS lost its drummer and replacement bass player. When friends of the band asked why they left, Marshal stated, They told me they couldnt make millions playing heavy metal. Even though they lost the rhythm section of the band, Brian and Marshal were not discouraged and forged on with auditions for new members. A friend from a local black metal band, Dan Ifling, came to play to fulfill the position of drummer for a few leftover shows. Original bass player, Mark Stevenson, helped out by playing bass to fill the empty position.
With Dan having health problems and work issues, he introduced the members of DBS to an old friend of his, Ian Ball (Formaless Nexus), to play drums. After they achieved finding a drummer, Marshal called an old friend Jarod Moran (The Recovery Period, Old Woman with No Teeth) to step in and play bass.
With all the ups and downs and seemingly endless chaos the band faced for two years, DBS has finally reached the point of writing and playing the music Marshal and Brian had hoped to compose when they established the band Driven By Suffering. With the absence of drama that surrounded the group for months, Driven By Suffering finally achieved the brotherhood. Nothing can stop this Southern death/core band from achieving success.
