Target Group: Beginners

Theame: Shopping, Japanese Money and Counting

Outcomes:  By the end of this unit, learners will be able to
     Ask how much for things
     Ask for things to buy
     Take out correct amount of money from a wallet
     Have increased language and cultural awareness
     Know that counting things is not the same as counting people
     Know that there is a denomination for 10,000 in Japanese
     Know that there is nothing like 'cent' in Japanese currency

Learning How to learn:  Easier to put comma after every 4 zeros when 
      counting in Japanese.  e.g. 1,0000 (ichi man) instead of 10,000.
Exercises & Activities

1  Use realia to practice counting money.
2. Take out correct amount from a wallet exercise.
3.  Money Match Up
4. Discuss and guess, based on their knowledge, if asking for discount is
    ok or not.  (In English)
5. Discuss or multiple question quiz, if tips are required or not
6. Compare costs of living in Japan and Australia using supermarket /real
    estate / car dealers/ fast food restaurants/ brochures.
7. Tell your friend what you want to buy and get him/her to make a
    shopping list for you.
8. Ask how much your partner is wearing today.

10. Make a second verse to the shopping song

Assessment

Llistening:  Listen to your sensei and,
                       *Circle the correct picture, number words and sentences.
                       *Write how much the items were and how many were bought.
                      
Speaking:  Check list to be checked by me, my friend and then my teacher.

Reading and Writing: Budget Shopping
                     With a budget of 5,000 yen, you must buy at least 10 items
                      from the list.
