| "Animal Farm" by George Orwell, Secker & Warburg Ltd. 1945 London Farmer Jones' animals revolted against their cruel owner, and ran the farm on their own, led by the pigs. Although they began as a democracy, it gradually developed into a dictatorship in which the pigs were the elite and Napoleon, the powerful and corrupt of the evil pigs, was the dictator. This is a wonderful resource and we can do a lot with this book. Here are some of my ideas. * Discuss about dictatorship and democracy before reading the book. * Three Level Guides on dictatorship. * Who could be a dictator in a school, company or a farm? Could it be a democracy? * Read the speech of OLD MAJOR, the highly regarded bore, and predic what will happen next. Or how the rebellion will take place (or not take place...) * Compose a melody for the song, "BEASTS OF ENGLAND". * Give different characters' descriptions to students and students draw their allotted animals with written descriptions and put the drawings on the wall. * Predict which animal will be the leader. * Make up seven commandments and compare with the one in the book. * Predict which commandment will remain and how other commandments will be altered. * Decide which animal is the stupidest of all and rank all the animals before reading the text and then compare. * Drama activity. * Watch the animated film on VIdeo.
