DWL's Latest News/Rumors (May 13, 2008) - IMPORTANT DATES: Like last year, we're going to have a cut-off date to play your team's games before the playoffs. This is to make sure people are trying to get games in and not letting the season drag. This year's playoffs will start Monday June 23rd. That gives us eight more weekends to play games. Last year's date was July 4th, but with an expanded league, the date is moved up this year to ensure completion before August 1. - SCHEDULING: In order to qualify for the playoffs after the June 23rd date, your team must play at least 6 games. Three of those games must be against a division opponent. If you want to play more than six, it is encouraged. The max for games played is 11 (playing each team once). - DEVIN DEBUT: Nobody has had a more impressive debut than Abi's latest pickup Devin, not even "The Chosen One" David Lanham. In Lanham's debut season in 2004, he averaged 8.8 ppg and 5.0 rpg in four games. Through his first three game, Devin is averaging 9 ppg and 5.7 rpg including a record-breaking performance when he became the first person to score all 13 points in a regulation victory. - 300 CLUB: It seems that after every week of games, someone moves into a new pts/rebs club in the record books. Scott Henderson, Alex Parr and Kevin Eaton have all entered new levels of clubs this season. However, next time Tim Rumpff plays he has an opportunity to create a club: the 300/300 club. With 291 career points and 334 career rebounds, Tim would become the first member of the 300/300 club with the next closest active player (Vadim) still 102 points and 56 rebounds away. - HITTING THE BOARDS: Jay Abadie made his debut this weekend and averaged 7.6 ppg and 9.0 rpg as a one-man. The crazy thing is he was supposed to be a 2man. That 9.0 rpg would've smashed the record for two men set last year by Ryan Fitzmeyer with 7.7 rpg. |

Most Valuable Player Big Board 1. Tim Rumpff
(4-1) Stats: 10.8 ppg 8.6 rpg Before losing to Devin/Abi, he seemed the obvious pick. He's still the favorite, but we'll see what happens if another team passes them in wins. 2. Vadim
Shenderey (2-0) Stats: 9.0 ppg 15.5 rpg By far has the best rebounding statistics of the candidates and has yet to lose. Hasn't looked as dominant as Tim, but doesn't need to with his use of his partner. 3. Alex Parr
(5-1) Stats: 6.5 ppg 8.8 rpg With Adam scoring like he is, it'll be tough for Alex to win this award because some won't be able to see past the low scoring. However, if his team knocks off Abi/Devin and ends up winning the division, it may be a different story. 4. Ryan
Motyka (2-0) Stats: 12.0 ppg 9.5 rpg His stats are amazing, but they came via the "Adam Browne Special"- largely from an OT game. His team looks like one of the best and this year could finally be his to get recognized. 5. Devin
Brunner (3-0) Stats: 9.0 ppg 5.7 rpg Scored all 13 points against Tim/Anthony but was guarded by Anthony on a non-regulation court. When he has to score against tougher defenders like Alex and Vadim the numbers will go down. 6. Scott
Henderson (2-2) Stats: 9.5 ppg 5.3 rpg He had a lot of hype around his team preseason. They struggled early and now find themselves fourth in a tough division. Would need to get his team back in the mix for the division to win it.7. Kevin
Eaton (1-2) Stats: 6.5 ppg 5.5 rpg Last year's co-MVP has found himself in a league with much stiffer competition this eason. His one point and zero rebound performance pretty much guarantees he won't be repeating. 8. Jay Abadie
(1-4) Stats: 7.6 ppg 9.0 rpg You have to win to get considered for this award. They finally got their first win, but would need to play the max amount to games and run the table for his consideration. Still, he'd be a long shot. |
Power Rankings See how the veterans rank the teams on a scale of average ranking. Teams will go up or down on a weekly basis. |

Remember When... Before the season Ryan Walker declined an invite to come out of retirement for one more DWL season. Two weeks ago he was quoted as saying... "I regret not playing. I looked at the website and remembered all the good times." Ryan recently came out of retirement to go 0-3 in his debut. Good times. |

The Mountain CLIMBING: Devin/Abi (3-0), this team is as hot as it comes after knocking off the former #1 ranked team Tim/Anthony. Devin looks like a lights-out scorer and Abi has looked like a contender for DPOY. PEAK: Tim/Anthony (4-1), they've gotten as far as they can. This team has too many weaknesses to go undefeated and were exposed in their loss. They'll end up around the top, but not on top. FALLING: Joey/Ryan (0-3), many thought this team would be one of the best based on Joey's basketball history. Three games later, and they're one loss away from possible elimination from playoffs. |
