| 2008 DWL Award Ceremony | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The 2008 awards have been finalized concluding a season that saw a strong DWL featuring twelve teams. The talent pool in the DWL was significantly improved in 2008 featuring Tim, Alex, Vadim, Scott and Kevin who have a combined 24 All-Star appearances. Added to the mix were Watkins Mill standouts Joey Collins and Andrew Valle. Scott Henderson's school of basketball also introduced two more prospects in Jay and Anthony. Not to mention, that Salar has been "most improved" two straight years meaning he's damn good now. We start with the All-Stars who feature many regulars with some making their first appearances... |

The first award being handed out is one that is always up for debate. In order, the previous winners are Craig Schattner, Abi Viswanathan, Ryan Motyka and Salar Samii (twice). Despite dropping 2.0 in ppg and 1.5 in rpg from 2006 to 2007, Salar still was awarded Most Improved for the second straight year last year. This season, he wasn't awarded for a third time. However, another person who's stats dipped did win. Despite his stats dropping 1.5 ppg and 1.8 rpg, MARK HENDERSON has won 2008's Most Improved Award! |

The Defensive Player of the Year award is up next and both Vadim and Alex seemed the favorites having won the award in previous seasons. Others such as Ryan Motyka, Abi Viswanathan, and Scott Henderson who have received votes in previous years could snag their first award in this category. However, it was ALEX PARR who took home his third DPOY award. |

The 2man of the Year award should (and may soon) be renamed "The Walker Award". Ryan Walker was the first to win the award in back to back seasons before being moved to a one-man. Then the younger of the Walker brothers, Adam, won a share of the award in back to back seasons. If Adam were to win this season, it would make five straight years of Walkers winning at least a share of the award. In 2008, ADAM WALKER finally got recognized alone as the best 2man in the game. |

Three Most Valuable Player award winners participated in the DWL this season. Last year's co-MVPs Kevin Eaton and Tim Rumpff had solid seasons, both making the playoffs. Eaton found his stride at the end of the season and finished tough to get into the playoffs. Rumpff had his best scoring season of his career leading the league with 10.3 ppg. Rumpff's co-MVP in the 2005 winter season, Vadim Shenderey, went 4-0 while averaging nearly 9 ppg and over 11 rpg. Perennail All-Star and Defensive POY Alex Parr had arguably his best season ever in leading his team to the most wins in the DWL. After the votes were in... it was determined we had one clear MVP for the first time since David Lanham in 2005... the league voted TIM RUMPFF for MVP giving him his third straight MVP award and first alone! |
