2004 DWL Award Ceremony

The 2004 awards have been finalized concluding the most exciting DWL season ever. At around 8 pm on the evening of August 19th, the doors opened at this year's host site, the Parsa Hotel and Casino, where the 3rd Annual event took place.

For security reasons, the streets outside of his house were blocked to provide enough room for the DWL superstars to arrive. At about 8:34, the first two stars arrived together. DWL co-commissioner Kevin Eaton arrived in style alongside DWL "player" Joel Katz in leisure suits. When asked why they didn't bring dates, Joel explained that him and Kevin have grown quite fond of each other this summer.

The next to arrive was Adam Browne who everyone was surprised to see because he had just worked 70 consecutive hours for Enterprise. When he realized that much of the league hadn't shown up yet, Adam quickly got back to his working duties and proceeded to pick everyone up in a gift-wrapped automobile.

Hundreds of DWL followers were standing outside trying to get a glimpse of the players as they entered the building. Many DWL fans attempted to crash the party as they desperately tried to enter the arena. With only one seat remaining in the building, Salar desperately pleaded his case to get in...but the league quickly gave the seat to Ryan Motyka instead.

With five minutes until showtime, Bobby E was preparing his monologue in the backstage area. As everyone took their seats, Abi was apparently not happy with the team oriented seating arrangement. He then offered Ryan Fitz $50 and a seat next to Kevin so Abi could sit next to Tim.

To warm up the crowd, a long DWL bloopers film was shown. The bloopers movie showed goofy passes, people slipping, and Emil Superfin's DWL career.

Bobby E took the stage and quickly pulled out the envelope which contained the results of the Defensive Player of the Year award. The top nominees for this award were David Lanham, Adam Browne, and Alex Parr.

Bobby E opened the envelope and announced that Alex Parr had won the award with 46% of the vote. Alex took the stage without a smile, and accepted the award thanking simply "Sean Taylor".

The award ceremony quickly moved on and Bobby E retook the stage with the award for Most Improved Player. As the tradition is, Bobby E then announced that the top three candidates were Abi Viswanathan, Craig Isenbart, and 2004's Defensive Player of the Year Alex Parr. He pulled out the sheet of paper and announced that Abi Viswanathan had been voted the Most Improved player by 54%. Abi happily accepted the award and explained, "This is great...I really couldn't have done it without shooting the ball all that I did. I mean, shooting 30 shots per game does pay off!"

One of the most heated competitions for an award in the history of the DWL took place next: the 2-man award. Bobby E announced that the top three nominees were Scott Henderson, Ryan Walker, and 2004 Most Improved Player Abi Viswanathan. Bobby E opened the envelope and announced that Ryan Walker had been voted the 2-man of the year with only 31% of the vote. Ryan proceeded to the stage but somehow he was unable to make the trip because he somehow managed to break his nose and 6 other bones during the short walk.

The final award was placed on the podium: the DWL MVP award. With Vadim Shenderey winning twice in the first two years of the DWL but now slumping, will a new superstar be rewarded? Did Adam Browne not pass to Joel enough to get himself the award? Did people feel enough sympathy for Tim Rumpff for having to play with Ryan Fitz? Was Craig Schattner's rebounding dominance noticed?

Bobby E took the stage and announced that David Lanham had been voted the DWL MVP with 61% of the vote. His rebound total is the lowest of any DWL All-Star ever...BUT what's most important is the 4-0 record, and capturing the Joe's Cup. Congratulations to David Lanham on his DWL dominance in 2004.
