2005 Draft Analysis

#1 Salar Sami - Adam Browne: The 4th star was not left out because of Brownie's talents - everyone knows what he can do. But having a player like David available and passing him up just doesn't make much sense, no matter how well you think he'd fit.

RATING = ***

#2 Adam Walker selects David Lanham: The team was supposed to take the court last year will get another chance this year. Adam should have zero complaints having landed the best player in the league with the #2 pick.

RATING = ****

#3 Joel Katz - Kevin Eaton: This is the pick that shocked the DWL. Kevin's been steadily slipping in his play and has seemed to have lost his motivation and desire. But the two should work well together and maybe by the summer Kevin will have found his game.

RATING = *

#4 Paul Somethingorother - Vadim Shenderey: I'm giving this pick 4 stars for a few reasons. If Vadim is really back to dominating MVP style, getting him at #4 is a steal. Plus, these two players sizes match-up nicely and their relationship off the court is strong. This is should be an interesting team to watch.

RATING = ****

#5 Abi Viswanathan - Craig Isenbart: I can't give every pick 3 or 4 stars. But I don't want to make it seem like this was a bad pick. Abi has improved his scoring and we all know Craig has been improving his all around game. But will these two people able to work together? That'll be the question that the entire league will look for the answer to.

RATING = **

#6 Sam Mason - Tim Rumpff: (Then Trades Tim for Scott Henderson) I'm giving the pick of Tim Rumpff 3 stars. At #6 Sam would have gotten one of the leagues best scorers and rebounders, not to mention his Winter League teammate. But then Sam goes and trades him to Fitzland for Scott Henderson which I give only one star. Now I'm taking absolutely nothing away from Henderson's game, I'm a fan of his, but I don't know how well Sam and Scott will work together, especially considering their extreme lack of size. Makes everyone wonder exactly what Sam is getting from Ryan in this deal.

RATING = *** for Tim, * for trade for Scott

#7 Ryan Walker selects Alex Parr: The other reuniting team looks to improve upon a season where they impressed many. Alex's hard work and Ryan's smart play and good shooting should fair very well for these two.

RATING = ***

#8 Tom Broderick - Craig Schattner: The skilled and athletic Broderick teams up with a big and strong Schattner. If these two can find chemistry and a good mesh to their games, they could be a team to really be reckoned with.

RATING = ***

9. Ryan Fitzmeyer - Scott Henderson: (The trades Scott for Tim Rumpff) His pick of Scott earned him 3 stars in itself, but then he got one of the steals of the draft by trading Scott for Tim. Tim is a little bigger, a little better scorer and rebounder, and the two have played together before. I know Fitzmeyer loves TJ, but how much does he love him? It actually scares me to think of what he's doing for Sam in exchange for his ball boy buddy.

RATING = *** for Scott, **** for trade for Tim

#8 Greg Hand - Ryan Motyka: Can't really grade the draft pick considering he was taking Ryan no matter what. I will say, however, that this team should be a good one. Both are talented young players that athletic and can score. They're both very confident and shouldn't be afraid of any of the older DWL veterans. Like I mentioned in my mock, the last picked teams have usually faired well in the league, and this year should be no exception.

RATING = n/a
