| Review: Tonight would prove to be the most sucsessful and closely fought Drinkolympics World Cup ever. The Groundstaff and Drinkolympics committee had done an excellent job preparing the arena, and the introduction of the drinking stands seemed to add another dimension to the already 4 dimensional Drinkolympics competition. After a moving opening ceremony, which brought the Italian team to tears and a sensational fireworks extravaganza, the action was set to begin. Tom Jones was on fire going into the first match (Literally after being struck by a stray firework), and easily put away one of the favourites Jamaica, in one what would be one of the first of many upsets. The biggest disapointment of the evening was the failure of one of Drinkolympic's big guns, England to fire any shots, or for that matter drink any! Eventually England placed 10th, after a narrow loss to Australia in the playoff for 9th and 10th. A good sign for the future of the Drinkolympics was outstanding performances from new comers Italy and Columbia both making it to the final stages. Fiji was also in line for a impressive finish, till another upset (stomach) put them out of contention. In the end U.A.E once again showed their Drinkolympic superiority with an outstanding performance, easilly cruising to victory with 8 straight wins. Overall the night was a great night for Drinkolympics, with competitors generally performing at an exceptional level, illustrating the intensive training and conditioning needed going into any Drinkolympic World Cup campain. |
