2:60 “And when (Prophet) Musa prayed (to Allah) for granting water
to his people (in the desert), We instructed him to strike the
stone with his stick; (and when he did so) then twelve springs
of water with a high quantum emerged (for their 12 tribes) so
that each group of their people recognized its spring. (They were
commanded to) eat and drink from what Allah has provided and
do not cross the limits so that you are labeled as trouble makers
on earth.”
2:61 "And when you said: ‘ O Musa! We can not depend upon a single
food, therefore, pray to your Lord to bring out for us the produce
of the soil i.e. the spinach, cucumber, garlic, lentils and onions
(which they used in slavery). He replied: ‘Do you want the
inferior instead of the superior (food)?-Go away then to any
town, where you will get what you like. And humiliation and
misery was forced upon them, because they refuted Allah’s
Verses and unduly tried to kill the Prophets. And this was also
due to the fact that they crossed the limits in disobedience. ”

SLAVERY & FREEDOM
1. Almighty Allah provided the Jews an opportunity to forget about the bitter memory of slavery on liberation from Pharaoh. When they crossed the river Nile and entered a desert, free and clean environment was available to them. There the fresh and nutritional meat of the birds, delicious fluid of the trees, shadow of the clouds, and healthy water of the srings was provided to them.
