The Holy Prophet continued to recite till he reached Verse No.13 of the above Chapter, which states:
“If the disbelievers still turn away (i.e. do not accept Islam), then say that I have warned you about the torment of thunder like that which destroyed the people of A’d and Samu’d…”
Utba on hearing it, put his hand on the Holy Prophet’s mouth and requested him not to recite further, since he feared that they might be like the people of A’d & Samu’d, as he never told a lie. He then returned to Quraish, and said:“ I have heard such a thing (i.e. Al-Quran), which I never heard before.”

2:26 AL-QURAN,ITS EXAMPLES & WARNINGS
“ Indeed, Allah (Almighty) does not, at all, hesitate to give an example
of a mosquito or any thing smaller or bigger than this (in order to
illiustrate a phenomenon ). Thus, those who believe surely know that
it is the truth from their Lord . But those who disbelieve , (jokingly)
say: ‘ What is the purpose of Allah in giving such an example? (You
must know that) with this Allah (Almighty) permits many a people to
wander away as misguided, and guides may others with it (i.e. with
Al-Quran and with its examples). And He (Almighty Allah) permits
only those to be misled, who are ‘Fasiqeen’ (disobedient, rebellious).”

1. Al-Quran & its Examples:
The Holy Quran states many beautiful examples to depict different situations such as:
a) the fire and the thunder as mentioned before in 2:18-20 while depicting the condition of the hypocrites,
b) the examples of a Polytheist-like a person falling from the sky (22:31),
c) the example of Polytheists seeking help from the supporters other than Allah is like the house of web, fabricated by the spider (29:41),
d) the worshipping of gods, which cannot create any thing, even a small fly; and if the fly snatches away from them any thing, they cannot take it back (22:73) etc.
With such beautiful examples, Allah Almighty guides many a people; and those who make a joke of Al-Quran and its examples, Allah then does not care for them and permits them to remain as misguided.
