3:86-91 THE LAST MESSENGER - ABSOLUTE

3:86 “ How can Allah guide a (type) of people, who disbelieved after

they believed and they did testify that the Messenger (Muhammad -

peace be upon him) is definitely (and absolutely) true and when cleat

signs came to them? And Allah does not guide the people, who are

‘zalimun’ (i.e. who do not mend their ways, oppressors, hypocrites,

stubborn in their disbelief).”*

* [Al-Quran states at another place:

“ Indeed, those who believed and then disbelieved, believed again

and then disbelieved and went on adding to (their) disbelief, Allah

will never forgive them, nor guide them to the (Right) Way.” (4:137)

3:87 “ They are those, whose punishment is that the curse of Allah, of

the angels and of mankind must fall upon them.”*

* [This is because they refused to believe, when the truth became clear to them.]

3:88 “ They shall live therein (i.e. in the Hell) - where the torment will

neither be reduced for them nor there shall be any break in it for them.”

3:89 “ Except to those, who repented after it and rectified (themselves)

(i.e. accepted Islam and performed good deeds). Of course, Allah is

Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

3:90 “ Indeed, those who disbelieved after they believed, and then

added to (their) disbelief (in the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet),

their repentance shall never be accepted (because they repented only

by their tongues and not from their hearts because of their hypocrisy).

And they are those, who went astray.” (See the Noble Quran - 3:90)

3:91 “ Of course, those who disbelieved and they died as unbelievers,

even all the gold equivalent to the size of entire earth shall not be

accepted from any of them in the form of ransom for liberation. They

are the people for whom there is a painful torment, and for them there

will be none from the supporters.” *

* The Holy Prophet said:

* “ A disbeliever will be brought on the Day of Judgement and will be

questioned: ‘ Look! Had you been in possession of gold, equivalent

to the size of entire earth, will you give it in ransom (for your

liberation)?’. He will reply affirmatively. It will then be said to him:

‘You were asked to do the much easier thing than this (i.e. do not

commit ‘shirk’ and accept Islam) (but you did not do it)’”.

* TRUTHFULNESS OF THE HOLY PROPHET

It has been stated in Verse 3:86 that the disbelievers continued to stick to disbelief in spite of the fact that they did testify the truthfulness of the Holy Prophet. The following events may be noted in this connection:

1. Safiya (the respectable wife of the Holy Prophet and mother of the believers) stated the following:

“ When the Holy Prophet arrived Madina (after migrating from Mecca)

and stayed in Quba’, my father (Hayy bin Akhtab) (who was a religious

scholar as well as leader of the Jewish tribe) and my uncle (AbuYassir

bin Akhtab) went to see him. They returned home quite late after

sunset, being exhausted and depressed. I heard them talking, as below:

My uncle: “ Is he the same Prophet (as mentioned in the Torah)?

My father: “ By Allah! Yes.”

My uncle: “ Have you realized him as the same Prophet and have

confirmed his qualities (mentioned in the Torah)?”

My father: “ Of course (yes).”

My uncle: “ What do you then intend to do (i.e. will you accept Islam)?”

My father: “ So long as I am alive, my enmity with him will continue unabated.”

(They did not accept Islam because of their jealousy, since our Holy Prophet was not raised from the descendants of Israel.)
