3:33 –54 ZACHARIAH, MARYAM & JESUS CHRIST
3:33 “ Indeed, Allah selected Adam, Noah*, the Family of Ibrahim* and
the family of Imran* amongst all mankind in the entire universe.”
* [Note: They were selected for the guidance of mankind.]
3:34 “ [They all belong to a (united) community with] some of them being
the descendents of others. And Allah is All – Hearing, All – knowing.”
3:35 “ (Just remember) when the wife of Imran said: ‘ My Lord! I have
committed for devoting exclusively to You that is in my womb, free (with
nothing to do but) to worship You (all the time); so (please) accept it
from me. Indeed, You are All –hearing, All –knowing.’”
3:36 “ Thus, when she delivered her (i.e. Maryam) (Mary), she prayed:
‘ My Lord! Indeed, I have delivered a female (baby)’. And, of course,
Allah knows best what she delivered. [She continued to pray:] ‘ And the
male (that I wished to have) is not like the female (that I have delivered).
And I have named her Maryam (Mary) and I put her as well as her off
spring in your protection from Shata’n (devil), the rebuffed’”.
3:37 “ Thus, His Lord accepted her (i.e. Mary) with the best acceptance
and made her to flourish in a nice way and kept her under the custody of
Zachariah. Whenever, he entered ‘Al-Mihra’b (i.e. the holy place for
praying) so as to see her, he found her with fresh nourishing material
(like the off - season fresh fruits etc.). He (finally) asked:‘ O’ Mary! From
where do you get it?’ She replied:‘ This is from Allah’. Of course, Allah
provides livelihood to whom He likes without any account”.
3:38 “ It was there that Zachariah prayed to his Lord and submitted: ‘My
Lord! Grant me from Your special Grace pious children (like Mary).
Surely, You fully hears (our) prayers’”.
3:39 “ Then the angels called him, when he stood during prayers in ‘Al-
Mihra’b’(i.e. the holy place for worshipping). (They said:) ‘ Indeed, Allah
gives you the happy news (about the birth of your son) Yahya (John),
who will be confirming the word* from Allah, and will be a leader,
keeping himself away from women, as well as a Prophet from the
righteous’”. *
* [ i.e. Prophet Yahya will believe and confirm the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ brought about by the Word of Allah: ‘Kun Fayakoon’ i.e. be and it happens. See 3:45]
* [In 19:7, it was stated: “ O’ Zachariah, We give you a happy news about(the birth of ) a son whose name will be Yahya (John) – a name that We have never given to any one before him”.]
3:40 “ He (Zachariah) submitted: ‘ My Lord! How can there be a son to
me, when the old age has come at me, and whereas my wife has gone
to a state of unproductiveness (with regard to bearing a child). He
(Allah) said: ‘ It will be’; Allah does what He wills.”

3:41 “ He (Zachriah) submitted: ‘ My Lord! Make a sign for me’. Allah
said: ‘ The sign for you is that you will be unable to speak to the people
for three (continuous) days except by making signals (to convey your
intention). And remember (by praying) your Lord excessively and glorify
Him in the evening as well as in the morning. (See also 19:10)
3:42 “And when the angels said: ‘ O’ Maryam (Mary)! Indeed, Allah has
selected you and has purified you as well as chosen you for elevating
you above all the women in the entire universe.”
3:43 “ O’ Maryam! Remain obedient to your Lord and prostrate as well
as bow with those, who bow (to Allah in prayers).”
3:44 “ These are from the events of the unseen that We have revealed to you (Holy Prophet
). And you were not with them, when they were
dropping their pens (like the throwing of a dice) so as to decide who
should take care of Maryam; nor were you with them, when they were
arguing (about it).”
3:45 “ Remember, when the angels said: ‘ O’ Maryam (Mary)! Indeed,
Allah gives you the happy news of a Word* from Him, whose name will
be Massiah Easa (Jesus), the son of Maryam - honorable in this world
as well as in the Hereafter, and will be amongst those, who are very
close to Allah’.” (See also 4:171; 5:17,72)
*Jesus was born with Allah’s Word ‘Kun’ i.e ‘Be’ and he became.
