3:19-20 THE RELIGION OF ISLAM
3:19 “ Indeed, the religion before Allah is Islam only. And those, who were given the Book (i.e. the Jews & Christians) did not differ (in it i.e. Islam) but because of prejudice amongst themselves, and after the (clear) knowledge came to them. And those who refute the Verses of Allah, then, of course, Allah is quite quick in settling the account (of such non-believers).” [See also 3:85;45:17;2:213;2:213,253]
[Note: The Holy Quran states in 3:85 that whosoever selects a religion other than Islam, Allah will never accept it. This is because of the fact that our Holy Prophet is the Last Prophet and is for all people, for all creatures and for all times to come (33:40;34:28;21:107;6:19;25:1;9:33;61:9;48:28;25:51,52;5:3;6:115;5:3;3:81;6:91;38:87;15:9;26:196).
Further, Islam is a natural religion and is compatible with the nature of human beings (30:30;95:1-5).]
3:20 “ Thus, if they argue with you (unnecessarily), then (Holy Prophet) say (to them), ‘ I have submitted my face towards Allah as well as those who have followed me’. And say to those, who were given the Book as well as to Ummiyyeen (who were not given the Book before):‘ Do you also submit (to Allah) i.e. become Muslims and accept Islam?’ So, ithey become Muslims (and accept Islam), they are surely guided. But, if they don’t, then you have just to convey the Message. Indeed, Allah is All-Aware of His slaves.”
The Prophets and their followers followed the Religion of Islam. They were all Muslims. See:

ISLAM - The Natural Religion:
Islam is a natural religion, as it is compatible with the nature of human beings. The Holy Quran states in this regard:
a) “ Concentrate your face with total sincerity towards the Religion
(of Islam) (which states that no one is to be worshipped but Allah
only and that all human beings are equal – not to be dictated by
any one). (Beware!) The nature of Allah (i.e. His Religion of
Islam) (exactly) coincides with the nature on which He
created mankind (i.e. the human beings, by nature, submit
to none but Allah only). There is (absolutely) no change in
the (nature of the) creation of Allah (i.e. no one can change
the nature of Islam as well as of human beings). This is the
(simple and) Straight Religion; but most of the people
just don’t know.” (30:30)
b) “ By the fig and by the olive. And by the mount of Sinai. And (above
all) by this city of tranquility (i.e. Makka). Indeed, We created man
to the best creation (with the best nature). We, then, throw him down
to the state of lowest of the low.” (95:1-5)
[The above Verses 95:1-5 may be interpreted as below:]
[“ The great message which was revealed to Prophet Noah in ]
[ the valley of fig in the area near the Mediterranean Sea, and ]
[ which was revealed to Prophet Easa (Jesus Christ) in the valley ]
[ of olive in Damascus (Syria), and which was revealed to Prophet]
[ Musa (Moses) on the Mount of Sinai, and which has been finally]
[ revealed to the Last Prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him) in]
[ this city of tranquility i.e. Mecca, which ensures peace for the ]
[ entire humanity - all these messages reveal the solid fact that ]
[ We have, indeed, created man to the best of nature. Ironically, ]
[ however, he rebels against his true nature and renders himself ]
[ to the lowest of the low.” ]
The Holy Prophet said:
“ Every child is born on his nature (of Islam). His parents, then
make him either a Jew or a Christian…” (Bukhari:6226)
