3:10–3:13 PUNISHMENT FOR THE NON-BELIEVERS
3:10 “ Indeed, for those who disbelieved, neither their wealth nor their
children will save them from (the punishment of ) Allah. And they are the
fuel of the Fire (of Hell).”
3:11 “ Their example is like the family of Pharaoh and the people before them, who refuted Our Verses. Thus, Allah caught them due to their sins (of disbelief). And Allah is severe in (inflicting) punishment.”
3:12 “ Say (Holy Prophet) to those, who refute (Al-Quran): ‘ You will soon be defeated and forced to Hell for assembly. And it is the worst destination.’”*
* [It has been reported that after getting victory in the battle of Badr, the Holy Prophet invited the Jews to accept Islam and warned them that if they did not do so, they would also end up as defeated like the Quraish of Mecca. The Jews became furious and said: ‘You have defeated only the inexperienced people. If you ever tried to confront us, you will realize how the warriors fight.’ On their rude talk, the above Verse 3:12 was revealed, and Almighty Allah instructed the Holy Messenger to announce their defeat and humiliation. 3:13 “ Of course, there has been a sign for you (O’ People of the Book!)
in the two groups that met (for fighting) (in the Battle of Badr). One of
them was fighting in the Way of Allah, while the other were the non-
believers; they (i.e. the believers) were seeing them as twice
(whereas they were thrice) in number. And Allah supports those
with His assistance, whom He pleases. Surely in it, there
is a lesson for those having the eyes (of hearts).”
Note1: Al-Quran clarifies:
(a) “ …And He (Allah) showed you the non-believers
a few in your eyes…” (8:44)
(b) “ And Allah granted you victory in Badr, when you were weak…”*
(c) “ And remember, when you (Muslims) were few, recognized as
weak on earth…but He (Allah) provided you a safe place
(i.e. Al-Madina) and granted you victory…” (8:26)
(d) “ And remember (Holy Prophet) when Allah showed you the
non-believers as few in your dream…” (8:43) ] *(3:123)
