The onslaught of the enemy was so sudden and severe that the Muslims could not withstand and fled away from the battle field, excepting the Holy Prophet
and his Companions Ali, Abu Bakr, Umar, Abbas, Usama, Aiman, Ibn Harith, Fazal & Rabia.
(The Muslims, thus, received a set back because of their pride, as stated in 9:25)
In such a serious crisis, the Holy Prophet
, who stood like a rock in the battle field, hit his white mule with his leg and moved forward towards the enemy. The reins of his mule were held up by his uncle (Abbas), and its saddle supported by his cousin (Ibn Harith). The Holy Prophet was saying (loudly) at that time:
I am (surely) the Prophet, and there is (absolutely) nothing
false in it. I am the (grand) son of Abdul Mutalib.”
The Holy Prophet
then instructed his uncle, Abbas, to call the Muslims back with his loud voice, who then shouted:
[‘ Ya masharal Ansar- illazina awawwa nasaru wa ya masharal
Muhajireen-illazina bayau tahtashajaratay ! Inna Muhammadan
hayyun fahallamooho.’]
O’ People of Ansar (the residents of Madina), who granted refuge
(to the immigrants of Mecca) and assisted (Islam in very delicate
circumstances), and O’ Muhajireen (the immigrants), who gave a
strong commitment (to the Holy Prophet) under the tree (for fighting
the enemy)! Muhammad (peace be upon him) is alive, so you must
all gather around him.’
On hearing the loud call made by Abbas, the Companions of the Holy Prophet
immediately gathered around him.
The Muslims then faced the enemy dauntlessly and crushed its force. In the mean time, Ali and another Muslim suddenly attacked the flag carrier and killed him. The enemy being discouraged fled away leaving behind their families, cattle, weapons, and other material at the mercy of the Muslims.
