19) He never fought against peaceful people. He never committed aggression. (He never initiated fighting.) He fought those only, who committed aggression.

The Holy Quran states:

And fight in the Way of Allah against those who fight you, but do not commit aggression…” (2:190)

20) Peace is rule in Islam and war is an exception to establish peace.

21) The Holy Prophet said:

“ Never wish to fight your enemy, but pray to Allah for peace

and when you are forced to face your enemy, fight with

steadfastness, and know that the Paradise is under the shadow

of swords.” (Bukhari:2804)

(Note: This indicates a golden mean between peace and war.)

V) Military Strategy of the Holy Prophet in Major Battles:

A) The battle of Badr:

(It took place on 17th Ramadan of second Al-Hijrah.)

[The following points / events may be noted.]

1. After migrating to Madina, the Holy Prophet entered into a Peace Treaty (called the Treaty of Madina) wherein it was particularly resolved that the Muslims and the Jews of Madina would have the complete religious freedom and that they would collectively protect Madina from any outside aggression.

2. The Holy Prophet entered into similar Peace Agreements with the surrounding tribes of the Jews.

3. The Quraish could not tolerate such developments. They through the conspiracy of Abdullah bin Ubayy (the dangerous hypocrite, who was going to be declared as the King of Madina before the arrival of the Holy Prophet) as well as with their Jewish friends (who hated Islam) started sending their armed caravans in the suburbs of Madina so as to frighten them. Such armed men of Quraish hovered around Madina for killing androbing the Muslims coming on the way, driving away their cattle, and creating harassment amongst them.
