iv) To liberate Muslims from Slavery:

Al-Quran states:

“What is the matter with you that you do not fight in the way of Allah

as well as for those weak amongst men, women and children who pray

(with agony): ‘Our Lord! Pull us out from this town / country whose

dwellers are ‘Zalim’ ( the cruel people)…..” (4:75)

Warning: Neither commit aggression, nor initiate fighting. And if the peace offer is given, accept it.

Al-Quran states:

(Do not commit aggression)

a) “ And fight in the Way of Allah against those who fight you,

but do not commit aggression…” (2:190)

(Do not initiate fighting)

b)“… so if they fight you, you must also fight (kill) them…” (2:191)

(Accept peace offer)

c)“And (Holy Prophet !) if the enemies incline to peace, you should also

incline towards it and put trust on Allah…And if they intend to deceive

you, Allah is sufficient for you…” (8:61,62)

II. Jihad made obligatory in stages:

(see commentary on 2:109,191)

j) The Muslims were commanded in the beginning to restrain from fighting and ignore the mischief and atrocities of the non-believers (till they were trained and strengthened). (2:109; 4:77)

ii) The believers were then permitted to fight as they were greatly oppressed. (22:216)

iii) Jihad was made obligatory for them. (2:216)

iv) The Muslims were ordered not to initiate fighting. (2:191)

v) They were commanded to liberate the Muslims from the slavery and atrocities of the non-believers. (4:75)

III) Importance of Jihad:

A) Al-Quran states:

1) “And you must not call those as dead who are killed (martyred) in the

way of Allah. They are surely alive, but you just can not comprehend.”

(2:154)

2) “And you must not even think those as dead who are killed in the way of

Allah. They are surely alive with their Lord, and they are given

livelihood.” (3:169)
