2:183-187 FASTING IN RAMADAN

2:183 “ O’ you who believe! Fasting is obligatory for you, as it was obligatory for the people before you, so that you may fear Allah much.”

2:184 “ The days (of fasting) are few in number (29 or 30); but if any of you is sick or on a journey (and he abandons to fast), the number (then) must be completed (by fasting) in the other days (after Ramadan). And those, who face difficulty in fasting (such as an old person, a pregnant woman or the milk feeding woman)*, they must feed a poor person in lieu of it (i.e. feed at least any poor person every day for every omitted fast)*. And whosoever performs a good deed willingly (i.e. fasts in spite of difficulty), this is much better for him. And to fast, is surely better for you, if you know about it.”

*[Topic 27-Bukhari:4235-4237-Verdict of Hasan Basri & Ibn Abbas)

2:185 “ The month of Ramadan (i.e. of fasting) is the month in which was revealed Al-Quran – the Guidance for mankind, and there are clear Proofs /Verses of Guidance; and it is Al-Furqan as well (i.e. the Standard for distinguishing the Right from Wrong). Therefore, if any if you witnesses this month, he must fast in it. But, if any of you is sick or on a journey, he must complete the number on other days (after Ramadan). Allah (in this way) makes the things easy for you and not difficult for you. And you must complete the number (of the days of fasting), and state (loudly) the Greatness of Allah for the Guidance that He has given you, so that you may be grateful (to Him).”
