Disclaimer: Don’t Own Roswell, yada yada yada we all know it.  All the
make believe characters I created are mine.
Additional Disclaimer:
Although I’d like to believe I can come up with one original idea of my
own, after I finished writing this I realized that I incorporated things
from several sci-fi backgrounds: Star Wars both the movies and the
books; Roswell books and TV show, Battle Star Galactica TV, books of
Shanarah, Outer Limits, etc. there are probably more.  I’ve been exposed
to so much sci-fi that they just flow out in my writing unintentionally.

Although I’d like to incorporate the Roswell books idea that they once
were light beings, I have no idea how to manipulate DNA of a
non-corporeal being, let along describe anything that they’re doing
besides glowing and blinking. I’ll be sticking to the precedence of Star
Trek and applying human forms to all the alien races.

Summary:  All events in this story are before the ship left for earth.
There will be different time sequences, and flashbacks.  (Be
forewarned.)  Includes all the characters we know of, but…  their names
are changed.

(From Season Finale) Gene Francis is Max & Isabel’s mom. And sets up the
following.
Zam (Max) is the king, the leader of their people.  Dyses (Tess) is his
wife, the queen.  Kal (Michael) is his 2nd in command, and Dyses’
brother.  Zazi (Isabel) is Zam’s twin sister, and Kal’s fiancé’.
They were all killed in the war that enslaved their planet   Their
essence was cloned and combined with human DNA and they were sent to
Earth to conquer their enemies, who are also on Earth (not Earthlings -
another alien race that is destructive). She tells them to learn all
they can about the enemy species and come back to rescue them.

My story is centered during the invasion that is about to enslave their
planet.

Very Beginning (or the End however you look at it)

“Are you sure?” said Gene Francis.

“We have gone over all the prophecies, and The Eye.  All the signs say
they are the ones.”

“I understand that we’ve genetically enhanced the human DNA to a highly
evolved state, and they will be better able to survive and protect
themselves.  But we are sending children to win this war, when our
entire army was defeated.”

“They will grow up, and grow more powerful.”

“But there are only four of them.  What about any others?”

“According to the prophecy: one, with the greatest power, will bring
peace, time and time again.”

“And if he doesn’t achieve that power in human form?“

“It is out of our hands now.  Their fates are already set.  We have done
all we can for them.” Replied the old wise man and prophet, while
overlooking a hanger, where a spaceship is being loaded with equipment.
Among which are four incubation pods.

“The ship is ready.  The team is aboard.  We’re just awaiting you
finally approval for launch.  There will be an escort until they are out
of this quadrant.  They should be safe on their own from there out.”

“Yes, launch the ships.” She watches as the ships take off and go out of
sight. “Goodbye my children.”

Part 1

He hurried down the corridor.  As he ran he was trying to compose
himself to hide the fear, sorrow, anger, and despair that he was feeling
about the news he had just received.  As he stepped into the control
room, he saw whom he needed to relay this information standing by the
view port gazing out to the view of their planet below.  It was indeed a
beautiful sight.  Vibrant purple and blue swirls mixed with wisps of
white clouds here and there.  By the sight of it, it was hard to believe
that soon this beautiful place would not exist.  That someday soon the
star would go super nova and destroy everything in this system.  That
their people would have to find a new home.  But now it seems that
that’s the least of their worries.  It never occurred to them that there
might not be any people left.

“Your Highness.  We have just received word from gamma sector.” He
walked across the control room towards the view port.

“We’re our suspicions confirmed?” It was said in a calm, cool voice, but
he never turned  around and his eyes were still transfixed on the view
below.

“Yes.  They have the entire quadrant surrounded.  They haven’t left any
passages for escape routes or troop reinforcements.  From their
movements it appears that they are not yet ready to launch an invasion.”

This just confirmed their worst fears.  That some race unknown to them,
without any provocation, decided to launch a full assault against their
peaceful planet.  They had sent them ‘a message’ a few days ago, if
that’s even what ‘it’ could be called.  It was more like a slap to the
face.  They just wanted to instill fear and panic.  They wanted to
announce their arrival, like there would be a celebration waiting here
for them.  There outright arrogance just proved that there would be no
negotiations, there was no reasoning with them.  And it also showed
their ignorance.  They apparently knew nothing about the people they are
about to confront.  And in doing so, the enemy just told them one of
their weaknesses.  A weakness that would bring about their undoing.

“Did all of the 2nd wave of the military fleet make it through without
being detected?”

“Yes, the only ones left is the battalion here to defend the planet.”

“And how is the rest of the evacuation coming along?”

“All the passengers are aboard, and the ships are ready to launch.  The
explosives have been placed on all the major target areas.  Everything
is ready for the final step of the plan.”

Mumbles just under his breath “Why does it feel like I’m betraying
them?”

“What was that, Your Highness?” he didn’t hear what was just said, nor
was it intended that he did.

“And the explosives were set to go off as invading troops enter?”

“Yes, those were your orders.”

“I’m going to start preparing in a hour.  Tell the ships they can launch
as soon as they detect the vortex.  That will be all for now.  Make sure
that I am not disturbed.  Let me know when the invasion fleet is
launched.”

He took in all that was told to him by the messenger, and was thinking
to himself.
Hopefully that’ll take some of them out with it.  Who would have thought
we would end up destroying our own facilities, technology that took
centuries to develop, just so that it didn’t fall into enemy hands.  But
that’s not the worst of it.  This wonderful plan of ours, make that
mine, my plan, I’m responsible for these people, my people, and my plan
still leaves most of the population to be enslaved.  But what can I do,
this is what destiny intended, and I can’t change destiny.  But I would
love to try.

He remembers back to the meeting where they came up with this plan.
**Flashback**
“Why do you always put everything on your shoulders?  This isn’t your
fault.  There is nothing you can do to change it.” She stood up from her
chair and smacked her hands down on the table.

“Zazi, this is my responsibility. I’m the leader of our people.  I fell
like I’ve failed them.”

“Zammy, Don’t say that.” Zazi said very sweetly and walked over and gave
her twin brother a hug.

“It’s true.  How could I let this happen?  And how am I supposed to just
stand by and watch as our people are enslaved?”  He stood up and started
pacing around the table.

They were interrupted by Kal his 2nd in command.  “We’re not just going
to stand by.  That’s why we’re here making this plan.”

“Oh, great plan there Kal.” Zam's voice rising with his evident
sarcasm.  “We are not only leaving millions of innocent people to be
enslaved, but we’re not even going to fight it.  We’re having the entire
fleet leave before the invaders come, leaving just one measly battalion
here to defend our planet, our home.  We’re basically handing everything
over to them.”  He threw his hands up into the air, and turned around
and started pacing in the other direction.

“They know we’re a peaceful race.  They won’t know that that’s not all
of our ships.  And they won’t suspect that there are more, so they won’t
be looking for them.” Her eyes were pleading with her brother to stop.

Kal’s voice was also escalating.  “What choice do we have Zam? You met
with the counsel, and they agreed the prophecies say that we lose this
battle.  This way we don’t have as much of a loss.  We’ll still have a
fleet to defend the new colony.  And we will be evacuating as many as
possible.  This was destined to happen, we are going to lose this battle
no matter what we do.  You can’t change destiny.”

“Yeah Zam, we’re evacuating all the children to the new colony.  The
fleet is necessary to protect them, so that they don’t also meet this
fate.  The enemy won’t know there’s a new colony, they’ll be safe.  What
more can we do?” Tears started welling up in her beautiful deep violet
eyes.

Zam starting very calm with a cold tone to his voice, but as he
continued the
pitch in his voice began to climb steadily.  “Destiny.  That’s right.  I
was destined to be the leader.  (yelling now) The leader who allows his
people to become enslaved without a fight.  And you know what else we
are destined for?  We are destined to die during this battle.  We are
not only leaving them to be enslaved, we are leaving them without
leaders.  How is that going to help them?” Both Kal and Zazi were
shocked to witness Zam so angry.  He was usually so in control, so calm,
he never showed his emotions like this before.

“The Eye gave you a glimpse of the future for all our options.  And if
we fight them now, we lose everything.  Including all hope of freeing
our people.  You remember telling me about that future, Zammy.  I sure
do.  First they took out the entire fleet.  After we could no longer
fight them, they landed and killed all the children, because they had no
use for them as slaves.  In that future our people would never be free.
There was no hope.  And when the star went super nova, they left all of
our people here to die.  That’s not a future.”

Kal chimed in.  “And when you asked what would happen if we evacuated
everyone, was that any better.  They killed most of the people before
they even got a chance to make it to their ships.  We don’t have the
resources or the time to evacuate everyone.  And the small amount of
ships that did manage to take off, they chased them everywhere they fled
and finally annihilated all of them.  We’re looking at annihilation.
Losing this battle and maintaining as much strength as we can is our
best plan. Then we can annihilate them, and free all the worlds they’ve
enslaved.  That’s the option we took.”

“That’s the only option.” Zam stated.

“Then why are you fighting with us about it?”  Kal was still yelling.

“I wasn’t debating the validity of this plan.  I just don’t feel like
their leader right now.  It feels more like I’m leading them to
slaughter.”
**end flashback**

Part 2

Zam went to the conference hall.  He needed a large room to work in.  He
sat down on the floor and spread out some personal items around him.  He
needed to concentrate, and these helped him focus.  This will be 3 times
in 3 days that he had to exert all his energy.  He was tired physically,
but his power was just as strong.  And it was his power that would be
doing most of the work.  He alone has the power to open a vortex.  A
vortex to a wormhole in space.  He has been using this unique power to
help their ships ‘sneak away.’  So far the first 2 waves of ships were
able to travel through undetected, and there was no reason to believe
that the enemy had anyway of detecting vortexes.  This power had been
absolutely essential in the evacuation.  Without it, no ships would have
been able to leave.  This would be the last of the evacuation.  That’s
because this was the last of their ships.  He made sure that every last
one carried as many people as possible, and that every ship they had was
used.  He understood all to well that they didn’t have the resources, or
the time to evacuate their entire population, but he would be sure that
he evacuated as many as was possible.  He knew he wouldn’t have been
able to live with it if even just one more person could have made it
out.

He picked up a photo of his children.  He made all the arrangements
immediately after finding out that an invasion was coming.  They were to
be kept safe at all cost.  They went with the military fleet in the
first group.  He knew they would be in good hands, he left them in Rya’s
care.  She has lilac skin and hair, and gold eyes, which is not very
common in her race.  But that’s not only what made her unique.  Feisty
would be the best word to describe her.  She was their mothers’ best
friend forever, and their godmother.  She loves them like they were her
own children, and they adore her.  And now due to the circumstances,
they were going to be without a mother, and a father, but at least they
still have Rya.  His daughter Katia looked so much like her mother, soft
shimmering silvery skin, deep violet eyes, and long black hair.  With
their race, deep violet eyes always represented great power.  And her
twin brother Kit reminded him of himself at that age.  She would have
her hands full with those two.

He couldn’t help but smile at their photo.  It was their 10th birthday
party.  It was only 4 months ago, but now it seems like forever.  Kit n
Kat had requested a pool party.  And of course ‘The Queen’ couldn’t go
into the water, so those two conspired with some other kids and managed
to get her close enough to the water to knock her in.  She was drenched,
frantic in the water screaming for someone to help get her out.  In the
picture Rya is scolding them for their behavior, but you can see that
she’s trying to hold back a smile.  And Kit n Kat were covering their
mouths to hide their giggles.  Yes, they are definitely like their
mother.  And of course off to the side you can see the guards trying to
get Dyses out of the water.  The picture was taken just as she turned
her head towards him, so it’s a perfect shot of her face.  Her emerald
green eyes just glared pure hatred, when he didn’t go to help her, and
that look is just classic.  He was glad he took that photo.  Although
Dyses didn’t see the humor in it, so he spent that night with the kids.
He remembers talking with Rya after they put the kids to bed, and she
was laughing so hard, she fell to the floor rolling while holding her
stomach.

Then he closed his eyes and concentrated.  His silvery skin began to
glow, illuminating the whole room around him.  Then the beams of light
started swirling around, and contained various colors (blues, purples,
reds, greens, etc.).  He could feel the power building, and then he just
needed to focus it.  They had already designated the coordinates for the
vortex, that way all the ships would know exactly where to go, since the
vortex itself is invisible.  He could feel the universe.  He manipulated
space to form the wormhole.  It needed to be precise, so that they ended
up at the new colony with the other 2 groups of ships.  Then he felt the
vortex opening.

The ships detected the vortex and started going through in their
designated flight paths.  There was no time to waste.  There were a lot
of ships that needed to get through.  And Zam was never 100% sure as to
how long he’d be able to maintain the wormhole.  Their strategy has been
to have the ships follow as closely as possible.  As soon as they were
all through, a signal was sent verifying they made it to the other
side.  Then someone would go to Zam and tell him that he could close the
vortex.  The 2nd wave had been a test of his ability to control it.
Those were the ships carrying all the other children, and it consisted
of the largest amount of ships going through at once.  Amazingly it
seemed that the more he was connected with the universe, the more he
could perceive everything around him.  He had actually been able to
sense all the ships.  And after they were completely through, he knew
and closed the vortex without anyone needing to tell him.  But that
didn’t happen this time.  He heard someone enter the room.  He couldn’t
make much out, but he was sure that he heard ‘all through’.  He closed
the vortex and looked up to see Kal standing there, slowly uncovering
his eyes.  Because of the brightness of the light that was there only
seconds ago, he had to blink a few times to adjust his eyes.

“Hey, that is so cool.”

“And tiring.  Did they all get through OK?”

“Yeah.  Get some rest, I’ll meet up with you later.” Kal patted Zam on
the back.  He started collecting everything together, and warily got up,
needing Kal’s help.  “Now we just wait.”  Those words sent a chill down
his spine.  Wait.  That was the last thing he wanted to do.

Part 3

Kal walked into the control room.  He saw Zam sitting in the command
chair with his arm bent resting on the arm of the chair holding up his
head. He was just quietly staring at the view of the planet below.  The
man at the door said he has been like this for hours.  Kal never felt so
glad that he didn’t have all the responsibility that Zam did.
“Zam, we have to go.  It’s time for Dyses’s funeral.”  When he still
didn’t move Kal figured he was upset over the death of his sister, the
queen.  “We all miss her.  But you have to be there.  You have to appear
strong, so that the people won’t get more upset.  They lost their
queen.  I lost my sister.  But we have more important issues to be
concerned about.  This is just a way for everyone to say goodbye, and
prepare for the immediate threat approaching.”  Kal was trying not to
sound upset, trying not to let his emotions show, trying not to cry
about losing his sister, part of his family.  Although he was closer to
Zam and Zazi than he had ever been with his own sister.  They were more
like family to him.

It was just 3 days ago when her body was paraded back to their home with
a message.  A message, that they were coming.  The enemy thought that by
killing the queen, the people would panic, and would be easier to
conquer.  That just showed how little they actually knew about them.
They were making assumptions about a race of people they knew absolutely
nothing about.  The mistake of conquers is believing that others are
inferior to them.  The only way to truly conquer someone is to know
everything about them, their strengths and their weaknesses, and then
use those against them.  Their omnipotent nature would eventually be
their undoing, because this time they messed with the wrong people.
Unfortunately they never heard of the race of these invaders, so they
had to buy some time.  And under the guise of being peaceful with
minimal defense capabilities, the enemy will assume they are an easy
conquer and never suspect that there’s more to them than meets the eye.

Zam still sat quietly, if he said anything now it would not be what Kal
wanted to hear.  Kal wanted to hear that he missed Dyses, that he’d
loved her, that he felt some loss.  But in actuality, he felt glad she
was gone.  He always found her so annoying.  Annoying in a way that was
uniquely Dyses.  Her incessant nagging.  That high shriek in her voice.
And how she always would throw the destiny card.  We are destined to be
together.  You are destined to be my husband.  EERRGGG!!!!!!  Sometimes
he wanted to kill her himself.

“Zam, what’s taking you so long?”

“I’m not looking forward to looking into the faces of all the people
that I’m forced to leave behind.”  Even though he had faced them just a
few days ago to tell them about the invasion coming and their plan, this
time it was harder.  The evacuation was complete.  Everyone left,
everyone present, would be left behind.  Their fates were sealed.

They both left to attend the funeral.  Their people were mourning over
the loss of their queen, and needed their king’s strength now to help
them through the times to come.

Part 4

(At the funeral.) Zam is seated at his throne, with Zazi and Kal at his side, as always. He wasn't paying much attention though, instead he was deep in thought. He hated the fact that he was glad she was gone. True their whole marriage was arranged. Since he was the king he had to have a queen. But his heart would not allow him to ever love another. He refused to look at any of the girls that were introduced to him. Finally his mother gave him an ultimatum. Choose a girl, or she would choose for him. He was so upset, his heartache so overwhelming, that he went to The Eye for answers. He would never forget what he saw.

**flash**
He saw himself as a young boy. He felt something, something familiar, and stopped. There was a young girl holding his hand, Zazi? Well is looked kind of like Zazi, but?... she let go and walked off. He still couldn't place it and started looking out towards the other kids. His gaze stopped on one girl. She had long brown hair, and was having fun with a few other girls. And when she saw him looking at her, she smiled. It was a wonderful smile, it made his heart skip a beat. He couldn't take his eyes off her. It was like he was being drawn to her, and it was something he had no control of. As though he was meant to be with her.
**end flash** (scene from the pilot episode)

That was when he knew. And he agreed to a marriage. His 2nd in command Kal had a sister Dyses. He and Kal grew up together, it was always the 3 of them. Kal wasn't just a friend to them, he was a brother. Zam knew that Zazi & Kal were dating. He suspected his mother had something to do with that arrangement as well, but her intentions were good. And somehow it seemed right, his sister with Kal, and him with Kal's sister.

He had a private meeting with Dyses to make sure she understood that this marriage was in image only, that he would never love her. She must have thought that her charms would win him over, because she had said, 'we can work on that.' Instead he grew to despise her, to cringe whenever she was near. Most of the time he didn't even want to hold her hand when they were before their people. But this marriage was for appearances, and he made sure that they played the part. And of course Dyses would always use these opportunities to kiss him, or hold him close. She had a way of making every girl envy her and hate her at the same time. But that was her charm.

But now she was dead. She had been engaging in her queenly duties and was making a presence at a royal affair on the planet Alderaan. That was where 'they' got a hold of her. At first it didn't seem fair. Her life seemed so empty. But when Zam had gone to The Eye to find out about the invasion, he also found out that that was her destiny all along. Her destiny was to be at his side, as queen, and she was meant to die. Because whomever was at his side would die. And if his love, Zyl, hadn't died, then she would still have been at his side as queen. Then Zyl would have died in Dyses's place. But unlike Dyses's death, Zam had been devastated by Zyl's death and would not have been able to concentrate his powers for the task at hand. It's funny how destiny plans things.

Reluctantly, he looked out into the crowd. His race, the Kaliens, have silvery skin and black hair. The girls usually have long hair, which they braid, and place flowers in. Eye colors can vary, but purple shades are only found in people with great power. All of their people have power, but nothing compared to one with purple eyes. As he looked out into the crowd it suddenly dawned on him that he wasn't seeing anyone with purple eyes. He didn't know why he was thinking about that. Suddenly he was on a mission to find someone amongst the crowd with purple eyes. Why would there be no one left with purple eyes? He knew that the past several generations have had very few with purple eyes. The few that did, were are all in leader roles, like himself, Zazi, and Kal. And of course the prophets on the counsel, but they were all sent off to the new colony. It was only the last generation that there was an explosion of purple, almost a majority, but again those are all children now and at the new colony.
He got a flash of something someone once said. ***The people have been prepared for generations. There is a change in the balance of power. The whole is less, so one will have more. It is all part of destiny's plan.****
Was that supposed to mean that their overall population had power reserved, diverted from them, and redirected in order to make him stronger? That the new colony would be stronger, because of the all those children born with purple eyes? And what about his children? They both do too.

"Kal, Zazi. I have something I need you to do." They quickly got up and walked closer to him. "Find out if there is anyone left who has purple eyes." Kal was thinking, oh great he's gone off the deep end, but OK was all he said. "Zazi make another announcement, send it encrypted. Tell everyone that in addition to not using or mentioning any powers. They also must not mention that our race gets purple eyes, and all that it entails. And ask anyone that has purple eyes to contact us immediately."

"What's this all about Zam?" Kal didn't like this one bit.

"If I'm correct there won't be anybody here with purple eyes, besides the three of us, and Quade. But I need to be absolutely sure of that. And we are going to have to alter our eye color, anything besides purples. Kal contact Quade in the Resistance, use the secured channels and tell him he has to alter his eye color."

"Zammy, what's the big deal?" Zazi said rolling her eyes.

"I just remembered something, that finally made some sense. I was told that our people have been prepared for this day for generations. The last few generations have had very few born with purple eyes. Those are the people here now. So it's no coincidence, it was meant to be this way. So I'm not about to blow it. When we confront the enemy, we can't have purple eyes. Otherwise it may dawn on them some day to question it. Now go and make absolutely sure that there aren't any others."

While Zam was deep in thought, and appearing to be paying attention, he was being watched.
