Alex was walking down the street wondering about what Isabel said to him earlier that day. "I know that she cannot get close to anyone because of her being an alien and all. Why does it feel like she ripped my heart out and stomped on it?" Alex said as an image of Isabel doing it but he shuddered the thought away. "I guess I was just caught up in the whole 'Isabel Evans is talking' to me thing." Alex continued thinking. Alex walked into the Crashdown to get some girl advice about this whole thing. Liz was taking a tables order and Maria was at the cashier ringing someone up.
Liz turned and saw Alex walk in, "Hi Alex," Liz said. Alex did not say anything he just walked over to his usual table and stared at everyone. Liz saw that something was wrong with Alex so she decided to make him his favorite sundae. Maria had finished ringing the person and walked over to Alex and sat down across from him. "OK what is the matter you don't seem like your self today?" Maria questioned.
Maria's question snapped Alex out of his Isabel thought, "Huh, oh it nothing I'm just preoccupied with something."
"Thinking of Isabel I see," Maria smiled, "No really what is the matter with you did she do something to you," Maria started get all big sister like on him. Alex looked at Maria with sad eyes, "You know she said that I was smothering her and that she couldn't get close to me and that we could never have a 'regular" relationship. I know that but she feels that she has to bring it up every time that we are alone." Alex looked at Maria for some converting words. "I told you that she was trouble, she like playing with people's minds. Michael, Isabel, Max they are all the same, can't trust them. They use the stupid I'm a Czech explanation all the time, so that way they don't have to get close to us."
"What Czech thing? What are you talking about Maria?" Alex inquired.
"That is what Liz and myself call Max, Isabel, and Michael instead of calling them you know what." Maria answered.
"I heard Max what are you two talking about?" Liz asked. Liz put down Alex's sundae in front if him and continued; "I saw that you were not in high spirits today so I thought you might need this." Alex looked at Liz and then at Maria, "With friends like you two who needs anyone else." Alex smiled. Maria filled Liz in with what Alex had told her about what Isabel said to him.
"I'm sorry Alex, she is probably scared about what could happened if she got too close to you. Don't get me wrong I not sticking up for her but she is probably just scared." Liz said.
"You are probably right, but she didn't even give me time to say anything she just all of a sudden started with saying that stuff. All I did was take one of those constellation books over to her and see if she would want to look at the stars. I guess that is too much for her." Alex said while stuffing ice cream into his mouth. "I thought that ice cream was suppose to help you get over break ups?" Alex asked.
"Well it's suppose to but it never works," Liz said. "Well I better get back to work and that means you to Maria." Liz shouted so that the man who was trying to get Liz's attention heard her say that. Liz walked away from Alex and Maria followed closely behind. "Well they are busy so I will come back later to get a girls perspective of what I should do. Well off to the garage to practice some more." Alex said to himself. Alex got up from the table, waved good-bye to Liz and Maria, and walked out of the Crashdown.
Max walked down the hallway to his room when he heard a noise coming from Isabel's room. Max peeked his head in to see Isabel arranging her shoes by height again, "She only does that when she is worried or upset about something," Max said to himself. Max walked into Isabel's room and sat in the chair that was by the doorway. "What is the matter Iz?" Max questioned.
Isabel jumped and in a startled voice said, "You scared me Max. Uh, nothing I just thought I would clean up some stuff in my room."
"You know what Isabel, I have a bridge in New Mexico that I'm selling are you interested? You think I'm going to believe excuse then you don't know me very well Iz. Now what is the matter with you?"
"It's Alex, you know how I said that I could handle him? Well I was wrong, I think I'm falling for him." Isabel stood up and sat on her bed so she could talk to Max better. "I don't know what to do because I know that we cannot get series, and what if everyone knew about him? My school popularity would be seriously damaged. He's not the most popular person at school if you haven't noticed." Isabel ran her fingers through her hair and gave Max that I'm to sexy look.
"Well you have to go with what you feel is right. If you feel that pushing him away and telling him because you are different is why you can't be together then he'll have to life with that decision. Remember I tried to deny my feeling and look what happened? I lost Liz to another guy, got drunk, and did some things that I don't remember doing. I guess what I'm trying to say is that sometimes your brain can betray your heart." Max said then walked out of the room so that Isabel can think about what she was going to do.
Isabel sat on her bed and ran the Alex scene through her head over and over again. What am I going to do, I want to be with him but I can't. Why couldn't I just be normal then everything would be fine. Isabel grabbed her jacket and knocked a book off her desk. Isabel looked down and saw that it was the constellation book that Alex gave her. "That's it I'm going to have a long talk with him and tell him how I feel and see where it goes from there." Isabel grabbed her car keys and walked out of the house.
By the time that Alex got home it was dark. "Hello is anyone here?" Alex asked while walking into the house. "I guess no one is." Alex walked into the kitchen to make himself something to eat. He opened the refrigerator door and looked for the bread, peanut butter, and jelly. A loud noise came from the living room and made Alex jerk his head from the refrigerator to see what the noise was. Alex placed the bread and the other items he needed for the sandwich on the kitchen table. A creepy silence fell over the house again, which made Alex's heart start beating faster. "Hello is anyone there?" Alex's voice starting to crack from fear that was creeping up on him making his heart beat even faster. Alex started slowly walking towards the living room when a small sphere shaped object rolled and hit his shoes. "What the heck is this?" Alex bent down to examine the object. He picked the object up so that he could get a better feel of it.
"Hi Alex did you miss me?" A familiar voice said. Alex jumped to his feet ready to hit the person that said that. Alex's body relaxed when he finally realized whom it was. Isabel stood in the kitchen's door way. She stood there with the book Alex gave her and another sphere shaped object in her other hand.
"Well what brings you here Isabel? I thought you said that I was smothering you?" Alex snapped at her. Alex gave her the object back stepped over to the table so that he could make his sandwich.
"I thought I would come over because I needed to talk to you. I just wanted to talk about the other night and that I…." Isabel's lips were stopped by Alex's finger.
"You know that the reason I was spending all this time with you was that I liked you and I wanted to get to know you. I didn't mean to smother you are make you feel trapped, but I was just awe stricken that a popular girl that I have had a crush on was actually talking to me." Alex said and then removed his finger from her mouth. "I do have to agree with you on one thing and that is that we are different. I know that you don't want to take whatever we have to another level because you are afraid of what will happen. Then I guess that we shouldn't be around each other, because I'm not able to control myself when you are around me."
Isabel didn't know what to say. Alex totally bashed her over the head with what he just said. "I guess I do deserve that Alex because of how I treated you. I kept on pushing you away and telling you that we could be nothing but friends, because I was afraid of what would happened if I gave in. If you think that we shouldn't be together or see each other then I have to respect you wishes. I'm just sorry that you feel that way Alex." Isabel started to walk out the door. "It was nice to know you Alex, and I hope everything goes well with you." Isabel didn't want to start crying in front of Alex, but she couldn't help herself. A tear ran down her cheek and she run out of the house. As soon as Isabel got home she ran to her room, slammed the door shut and threw herself on the bed crying.
Alex's alarm went off, but he didn't need it to go off to wake him up. He spent the whole night thinking about how he hurt Isabel, and how he wished he could take back everything he said. Alex didn't feel like going to school that day and having everyone look at him as if he was the devil or something. "You're going to be late for school Alexander if you don't hurry up." Alex's mother cried.
Maybe if I explain everything to Liz and Maria they can help me make it up to Isabel. Alex thought while he was getting ready for school. Alex arrived at school and started walking to his first period class. It seemed that everyone was looking at him with hatred. Come on Whitman it's all in your imagination. Alex felt someone hit his arm and he turned to see whom it was.
"Oh hi Liz, Maria," Alex said, "How is everything with you two."
"I'm fine Alex." Liz said then looked at Maria and they shared a look. "So what did you do last night about the Isabel situation?" Alex face turned pale and said, "I told her that we should never see each other again." Liz and Maria's mouths dropped and their eyes bulged out.
"What do you mean that you couldn't be together Alex?" Maria almost screamed.
"She came over last night and she said that she was sorry, but I began thinking that I couldn't stand in her way while she looked for answered about herself. Trust me I didn't want to say what I said, but it sort of just came out." Alex lowered his head and stopped and turned to Liz and Maria, "I know you two probably hate me right now, but please she said that I was smothering her and getting to close to her. I decided to give her the space while she figured out what she needed." Liz put her hand on Alex's shoulder and said,
"I know you didn't mean to say that Alex, but did you have to say never again?"
Alex's shoulders shanks even more then what they were and responded, "I didn't want to say never it just came out that way. I just wish I could take everything I said back." The bell rang for school to begin and Alex rushed off to class leaving Liz and Maria there standing. Alex spent the first three classes just looking out the window and thinking about what he did last night. He didn't know where the words came from it was as if someone else was standing there saying the words. It was lunchtime now and Alex was sitting at his usual table waiting for the gang to join him. All of a sudden he heard loud gossip behind him and he couldn't help but look himself to see what people were talking about. In the distance he saw a girl with her hand interlocked with James Alan the star soccer player of school. He wasn't very popular until he led the team to the state championship. Alex heard from Liz and Maria that ever since then every girl at West Roswell High wanted to go out with him.
'I guess that is the price to pay for popularity,' Alex thought. Alex's mouth dropped and he felt his heartbreak into another million pieces when he saw whom the girl was. Isabel had her hand inter-twined with his and was whispering something into his ear. She was totally flirting with him, and from his facial expression she had him wrapped around her finger. After a few minutes faces started to turned towards him and stare to see what he was going to do. Everyone new that Isabel Evans and him were spending a lot of time together and looked like they were a couple. Alex saw everyone staring at him and he couldn't take everyone's eyes on him. Alex gathered up his lunch and walked away from the table, but stopped when he saw Liz. Max, Maria, and Michael walking towards him.
"Hi, Alex where do you want to eat for lunch?" He heard Liz ask. Alex walked straight up to her and said, "I'm going home I think I'm coming down with something. I was sitting over there so everyone can have that table." Alex pointed to the table he was just at and walked away from everyone.
"What is that all about?" Max asked. Liz looked over to the table then something caught her eye. She looked pass the eating teens to Isabel sitting on James lap, "I think that is our answer." Liz pointed over to Isabel and everyone's mouths dropped when they saw how friendly Isabel was with James.
Alex arrived at home and went straight to his room. His mother didn't even have time to ask why he was home. Alex shut he door and laid on his bed, turned his stereo on, and just stared at the ceiling. A knock came from the door and Alex's mother's voice could be heard, "Alex, hon what is the matter? Why are you home so early?"
"It's nothing mom, I not feeling so well so I thought it was best that I came home. I didn't want to hurl in front of everyone at school." Alex almost couldn't get the words out.
"You want me to bring you some soup and tea Alex?" Alex's mom inquired further.
"No, Mom I just need some rest I'll feel better in the morning." Alex answered the turned his stereo up more so it drowned his mother out. Alex closed his eyes and fell asleep in matter of moments. When he woke up he heard a nock at his door and heard hi mom say, "Hi girls Alex is in his room. He came home from school and said that he was not feeling very well. I was about to bring him soup would you mind giving it to him?" Liz shook her head in agreement and took the soup from her.
Maria knocked on the door then opened it slowly. "Come in and take a seat you two," Alex said. Maria opened the door all the way and they both walked in. Maria sat at Alex's computer desk and Liz sat on the edge of his bed. "Your mom wanted you to have his." Liz always spoke first.
"Yea I know I heard you two talking. Sorry about earlier I wasn't feeling well and I'm still a little light headed." Alex managed to say. Alex didn't want to talk, didn't want to see anyone, and didn't want to do anything. He just wanted to stay in his room until this place where is heart use to be was filled again.
"You don't have to lie to us Alex we saw what you saw today." Maria blurted out, "She doesn't even have a mourning period she just jumps into whomever's lap she can get to. If you ask me."
"Well no one did Maria, so if you could keep your opinions to yourself I was greatly appreciate that." Alex still didn't like people talking bad about Isabel, even though, she was going out or study with James Alan. "Sorry Alex, but how are you holding up huh?"
"I'm fine really I was just feeling a little sick that's all. I think it must have been something I ate at the Crashdown yesterday." Alex smiled at Liz, who was looking at him with I-don't-think-so eyes.
"There's the Alex we all know and love." Liz said, "Here eat some soup it might make your stomach ache go away."
James in his Suburban brought Isabel home; his father owned the rental car agency in town so every year he had a different car. "Thank you for the ride home James. I really had a lot of fun today at your soccer game."
"I'm glad you had fun I hope we can do it again sometime." James replied. Isabel smiled and leaned in James' direction. James turned to see what she was doing and their lips met in a kiss. Isabel pulled herself away and said, "Thanks again for the ride, give me a call." With that Isabel got out of the car and walked inside the house. Isabel walked into the dining room where they were waiting for her to join them.
"About time you showed up lets eat shall we?" Mr. Evans said. He grabbed the bowl of mashed potatoes and starting serving himself some.
"If you don't mind I'm not very hungry and I have a lot of studying to do also. Can I be excused from dinner tonight?" Isabel saw Max staring at her because he new why she wasn't hungry. Mrs. Evans shook her head, Isabel walked upstairs and into her room. Max looked at his dinner and started eating quickly he wanted to talk to Isabel before she went to bed.
"Slow down there speed racer," Mr. Evans laughed.
"Sorry Dad I just remembered that I had this report to finish for school tomorrow." Max finished his plate and excused himself from the table. Max walked up to Isabel's room and heard crying, so Max just walked into her room. "Isabel what is the matter?" Max calmly spoke.
Isabel spun her head around to face Max, "Can't you knock Max! Ever heard of privacy!" Isabel shouted at him. Max sat on the edge of her bed and looked towards the wall. "Why were you crying and why at school where on James Alan's lap today at lunch?" Max wanted answers so he just said them.
"I don't have to answer your questions Max, I'm a big girl who can handle herself." Isabel snapped. Max shot her a look so that she new he was not going to leave until she told him everything. Isabel and Max had a staring contest for a few minutes until she finally caved in, "Fine then, if you are not going to leave until I tell you then here it is. I was with James today because I want to get back at Alex for what he did to me. I want him to feel the pain that he caused me when he said we could never be together. I want him to hurt until he can't hurt anymore." Isabel's had her hands in a fist and squeezed them until they were turning purple. "I came up with this idea I know it's not he best idea Max, but it will serve its purpose. I'll dump James in a few weeks when I think that Alex has hurt enough."
Max had never seen Isabel so angry and filled with revenge, "Well Iz, Alex saw you two at lunch and went home sick. Liz and Maria went over there to help cheer him up tonight. Don't you think he know he messed up I saw in his eyes that he was sorry for what he did to you. You know you are only hurting yourself by doing this Isabel. If you ever want to get back with Alex this is the wrong way to do it." Max looked at Isabel and watched as some of the angry subside. "Well I got some homework to do before I go to bed, so I'll see you in the morning." Max got up from her bed and left the room.
"If he wanted to be with me then he wouldn't have thrown me away then," Isabel sobbed. Isabel cried herself to sleep that night. She was having fun with James and she kind of liked him, but she still had the empty feeling that only Alex could fill. Alex had the touch that made her melt into a puddle of mush, his warm breathe made her insides burn with heat, and when they kissed her body exploded.
Liz and Maria had this plan that Alex should start hanging out with another females so that Isabel would see that her game or whatever she was playing wasn't effecting him. Alex thought about it for a long time and after five hours of saying no he wouldn't do it, but then he remembered how Isabel smiled when she was with James. It was the smile that she always had for him, and how she acted around him that made his inside tense and start to turn upside down. 'Well she isn't the only one that can play that game.' Alex remembered Liz telling him that Sarah Butler who sat next to him in history thought that he was cute. Alex was going to ask her out once, but then the whole "I'm an alien" thing happened and he got involved with Isabel. Alex got Sarah's number from his phone book and dialed the number.
"Hello is Sarah there?" Alex asked when the phone was picked up.
"Yes she is who may I ask is calling?" A deep voice responded.
"This is Alex Whitman she sits next to me in history class I wasn't at school today so I thought I would get the homework from her." Alex's hands were getting sweaty.
"Hold on let me get her, Alex." The voice said. Alex always got nervous when he talked to a girl. The memory of the first time he talked to Isabel popped in his head, but he quickly pushed it away when a small pretty voice answered the phone.
"Hello?" Sarah said.
"Sarah hi this is Alex," Alex started to stumbled over his words, "I…..I….was wondering if I could get today's homework from class?"
"Sure Alex hold on let me get my notes," Alex could see Sarah and how she always had a smile for him. He wondered how he missed how warm and welcoming it was every time she smiled. "Alex the homework for history was the chapter review for 12 and the vocabulary, but it's not do for two more days."
"Thanks Sarah, I was wondering if you might want to come over and we could work on it together?"
Alex's alarm went off making him fall out of bed. Alex picked himself up and turned the alarm off. He couldn't help but smile about what happened last night when Sarah came over. It was one of the best nights he has had in a long time, laughing, having things in common, and looking at Sarah smile made him smile. He couldn't put his finger on it but there was something about this girl that Isabel didn't have. Alex got dressed and left for Sarah's house he agreed to pick her up for school today.
Isabel was fixing her hair and thinking about her plan to make Alex jealous and how it was working. She smiled at how evil she was to him, but it was for his own good she kept on telling herself. "Come on Isabel you're going to make me late for school again this week," Max yelled up stairs. "Be down in a minute," Isabel replied. When Isabel went down stairs Max was in the jeep with it running. Isabel ran outside and jumped into the jeep and Max raced down the street. Max was about half way to school when he pulled up to Alex's car that was waiting at a red light.
Max turned to say hi but instead of saying hi his mouth dropped in disbelievement. Alex had his hand around this girl and was kissing her pretty passionately. Max looked at Isabel who looked like she was going to start crying. The light turned green and Max took off again with Alex's car behind them stopped still. "I told you that you were playing with fire Isabel and look at what happened," Max said quite harshly, "I'm sorry Isabel I didn't mean for it to come out that way. What I was going to say was that you always play these games with these love sick boys, and it seems like Alex was thrown in the arms of another girl instead of back into your arms." Max looked straight ahead and dared not looked at Isabel.
Isabel looked like stone but inside she was crying. He heart was telling her to go after him but her head was telling her that she had to be strong and not to give in. "I don't care what Alex does anymore it's not like he's my boyfriend or anything James is my boyfriend," The thought of James made her smile. Max pulled up into a parking spot and got out of the car where a waiting Liz was standing by the entrance to the school. Isabel was side by side with Max when they met Liz. Liz looked at Isabel and then at Max who still had a stunned face. "What happened Max?" Liz asked.
"I can't talk about it right now Liz," Max whispered to Liz.
"It's okay Max you don't have to talk behind my back. Max and I saw Alex and this other girl kissing at a stop light when we were heading to school today." She almost couldn't get the words out.
"Are you alright Isabel?" Liz questioned.
"I'm fine Liz really I am. I'm one-hundred percent better now." Isabel saw James in the distance and walked after him. Isabel walked up to James and placed her lips on his and put her hands around his neck. "Hi how are you today?" Isabel asked when their lips parted.
"I'm terrific now, how about you?" James replied.
"I'm much better now that I did that," Isabel smiled. Isabel's first three classes were pretty much the same. Sitting in class and listening to the teacher lecture, say the same jokes over again, and give out their homework assignment for the day. The bell rang for lunch and the student body all emerged in the quad. Isabel paid for her lunch and headed over to the usual table. Isabel stopped in her tracks when she saw who was sitting at the table. Alex was sitting with that girl who was in the car, Max. Liz, Michael and Maria. She felt the same empty feeling flow through her body while she as there looking at Alex and that girl. Isabel gathered up all the strength she could muster and walked over to the table. "Hi guys," Isabel said while sitting next to Michael.
Alex looked up from Sarah when he heard Isabel say hi. "Hi Isabel I would like you to meet Sarah. She is in my history class." Sarah looked at Isabel and put her hand out to shake it, but met a cold responds from her. Sarah retracted her hand and looked back at Alex who gave her a I'll-tell-you-later look. "I was thinking that we can all get together at the Crashdown tonight for dinner? Does that sound good to everyone else?" Alex asked. They all looked at each other and shook their head yes in agreement. Isabel didn't like the fact that she would have to spend the whole night looking at Alex with another girl, but everyone decided to go and she didn't want to be home alone tonight anyways. James had a soccer game out of town so he wouldn't be home until tomorrow afternoon. Isabel sighed and began eating her lunch, and thought about anything but tonight. Everyone else spent the lunch period talking to Sarah so that they could get to know her better before tonight. The bell rang signifying the end of lunch and everyone marched back into the classrooms.
Isabel stood in front of the mirror looking at herself and thinking that maybe it was her that he didn't like anymore or that Sarah was not an alien was made him go after her. A tear ran down her check at the thought of that. "Come on Isabel your going to make us late again," Max yelled. Isabel whipped the tear away and ran downstairs to a waiting Max. "I'm ready lets go I wouldn't want to keep Liz waiting," Isabel smiled at Max while she walked out the door.
Max arrived at the Crashdown and they walked in. Isabel saw everyone there already waiting for Max and her. "Let the games begin," Isabel told herself. Liz jumped up from the booth and about tackled Max to the ground. Maria was already in Michael's arms, but when she looked over to Alex to see him and Sarah, Sarah was nowhere to be found. Isabel sat in the only available seat, which was next to Alex. Isabel turned to Alex and said, "Where is Sarah tonight, it is Friday night after all?"
Alex didn't want to answer her but he slowly faced her and responded, "She said that her parents wouldn't let her go out tonight because they were going out of town and they didn't trust her to be home by herself. She told me that she has to spend the night at her grandparents house tonight, and spend time with them."
"She is how old?" Isabel teased.
"I don't see you with anyone tonight either, where is James?" Alex snapped back.
"He is out of town for a soccer game." Isabel replied. Maybe this isn't going to be so bad after all Sarah is not here so I don't have to be tortured tonight.
"I guess both of you're stag tonight." Max laughed. Isabel shot him a look that could have killed him. Max turned his attention back to Liz who was playing with the collar of his shirt. Alice the new waitress at the Crashdown came over and started taking their orders. Alice look a little puzzled at their order and the all the tobacco sauce they asked for. Alex didn't like sitting next to Isabel because it started to bring back all the memories that he repressed about her. The feeling that he got when she was looking at him, how she played with her hair when she was nervous, her smile she gave only for him, and how he felt just holding her hand.
"Alex….Alex….earth to Alex," a hand waved in front of his face making him snap out of his trans. "Huh what?" Alex said looking at Isabel. "I said could we got talk later there is something I need to tell you." Alex shook his head in agreement, but couldn't say anything to her because Alice had returned with their food.
"Is there anything I can get you?" Alice asked placing the food in front of them. They all said no and she walked away. They didn't say one word to each other because everyone was too busy stuffing their faces with food. Alex was the first to finish his dinner, and he began thinking about what Isabel wanted to talk to him about. Does she want to tell me how great it is dating James and rub it in? Is there another secret they all now and he doesn't? All these question popped in his head but he was stopped with the sound of Liz. "Max and I are going to a movie is there anyone else who wants to come along?"
"Michael and I are going back to my house to watch movies, so I have to say no Liz," Maria said. Michael took her hand and squeezed it. Liz turned to face Isabel and Alex, but when she did they were both gone and the front door was slowly closing.
"You think they could have at least said good-bye before running out the door," Liz smiled. Everyone had a good laugh at what she said.
Isabel and Alex walked down the street until the reached the corner of the street. Isabel looked over to the alley way and saw that no one was there. She didn't want anyone to see her just incase someone did they didn't want them to tell James. She pulled Alex in the alley way and started to open her mouth, "Alex I want to tell you something, so I can finally put to rest my feelings."
"What is it Iz…" A trashcan being knocked over and the sound of footsteps walking towards him stopped Alex. A shadowy figure started walking towards them, making Isabel's skin start to crawl. The figure stepped into the light and it was a homeless person who looked drunk.
The man stumbled towards Alex and said, "Excuse me do you have some change, so that I might be able to get something to eat?"
Alex remembered that he didn't have any money with him because he spent all his money on dinner. "Actually I do not have any money with me, I'm sorry" The homeless person did not see Isabel because she was standing in the dark. The man suddenly got angry and shouted at Alex, "Liar, Lair, why does everyone lie to me? Well I'll teach them a lesson." Before Alex could react to the man's outburst he pulled out a knife and plunged it into Alex's side. Blood start to trickle down his side and Alex fell to the ground with the man still standing there with the knife in his hand. Isabel saw what happened and couldn't believe it. Isabel screamed for help and the homeless man turned to see Isabel standing behind him. The man looked at her looked at Alex and ran out of the alley way and down the street.
Isabel knelt next to Alex and said to him, "Alex look at me, come on Alex look at me." Alex slowly opened his eye and meet her beautiful brown eyes. Isabel put her hand over Alex wound and she could feel that there was a lot of work she would need to do. Isabel started to concentrate on healing Alex's wound. Alex's body jerked when she started to heal him. Images of Alex as a younger boy started coming at her, then older images started to flash. Images of Alex playing baseball with his other brothers, his first day at school in Roswell, and the first time he saw her. Images of Isabel and how he saw her flowed through her body and mind. Isabel concentrated harder on the wound and she could feel it closing up under her hand. Isabel let out a breathe of air when she had finished healing him. She hadn't notice that she was holding her breath when she was healing him.
Alex felt strength come back to him and he felt well enough to sit up. "What happened Isabel?" Alex muttered.
"The homeless man stabbed you and ran away. I ran over to you and healed you like Max did to Liz in the café that day," Isabel replied still catching her breath.
"You healed me Isabel?" Alex questioned.
"Well I wasn't going to watch you die was I? You're the only person that I have truly loved. I'm just sorry that it took me so long to realize it. I'm sorry for playing this stupid game with you Alex. I just wanted you to feel how I felt with you said that we couldn't be together." A tear ran down her cheek and splashed on Alex's shirt.
"When I saw you with James my whole life crumbled before my eyes. I knew that it should have been me that day you were whispering things to. I was just scared about what would happen if I let you in. I have loved you since the first time I saw you Isabel, and I don't think that will ever change." Alex raised his hand and ran it down her cheek and caught the next tear that ran down her cheek.
"I can honestly say that is true Alex Whitman," Isabel laughed, "I got images of you when I healed you."
"Don't tell me you saw all my memories because I won't be able to live with myself if you saw everything." Alex said in amazement.
"That is for me to know and for you to find out." Isabel smiled. Isabel helped Alex to his feet and they walked out of the alley. "What do you say that we go to your house so you can change shirts?"
"That sounds like a plan Isabel" Alex said examining his cut shirt and dried blood, "but there is something I need to do first." Alex grabbed Isabel and turned her to face him and before Isabel could even know what was going on he placed his lips on her and kissed her passionately. Isabel melted into Alex's lips and she put her hands around his neck. A car passed by and a shout could be heard, "You go Whitman!!!" They pulled away from each other and looked at the car that had passed them. It was Maria's car and Michael's head was peaking out the window.
"I love you Isabel Evans," Alex whispered in her ear.
"I love you Alex Whitman" Isabel replied before kissing him again.
