New Life Baptist Church

Beginnings

We started the Church on a Wednesday Evening, December 30th, 1998 in Yorktown, Texas in the home of a family I had led to the Lord while I was Pastoring another Church in town. We continued meeting in their house for three months until the end of March 1999, when we moved to our present location at 2676 N. FM 2980 just 2.6 miles North of town.

I had started the Church in order to begin a new work that focused on door to door outreach and soul winning. I had come to an impasse over time with the main folks in my previous Church over the question of what our main focus would be : whether to be primarily a soul winning Church or more of a social club that sought to maintain the status quo.

I had sought to win and disciple people to Christ without respect of persons and as a result had gathered together a small nucleus of people which had the same desire as well, and we began this work with one mind and heart.

Another one of our families donated an acre of land to the Church to

be a permanent home, and work was done during those three months to clear the land and prepare it for a building to begin holding services in.

We purchased a 16' x 40' portable building shell and worked to finish it on the inside with electricity, insulation, sheet-rock, lights, air condi- tioner, carpet, paint, and etcetera. The land and first building took the better part of the first year to bring up to the place we wanted them.

The second year as we grew we needed another building for youth ministry, bathrooms, and fellowship meals. We eventually decided to take a mobile home that was donated to the Church and completely remodel it for the aforesaid purposes. It took us seven whole months to rip out the floors, inside and outside wall coverings, the electric & plumbing inside and replace them with all new materials.

We initially had borrowed some money to begin the work on the property, install electric, water well, and septic and purchase the first building to hold our meetings in. However, remodeling of the second building was all done with cash as we went. Then, after our second anniversary we were able to pay off the balance of our initial loan, and now we are totally debt free. PRAISE THE LORD !!!

We are in a small town of around 2,200 people, and I have already knocked each door in the town at least one time and about ¼ of them a second time. Some years back - after I had first come to the town and before I started this Church - I had used a telecomputer to call all of the phone numbers in the Yorktown area and do a brief religious survey with those that would allow me to interview them, and the result of all of this is that every house in this town has received either a personal sharing of the Gospel verbally or a Gospel tract by our hand. We will continue to do this until the Lord takes us home, for this is what our Church was built upon.

We are planning to begin a telecomputer outreach survey program very soon to reach the entire local calling distance area which will include all the way from Victoria to Yoakum, Goliad, Weesatche, and Nordheim with God's help. We will plan to present the Gospel to all who will allow us to and do follow up work as God provides open doors, time, and laborers.

We are also beginning a deliberate effort to reach as many people as we can through the means of the Internet by building Web sites through which we can disseminate the "Words of Life."

Folks, Heaven is the Limit to what we can attempt to accomplish for the Glory of our Savior. He is the Lord of Heaven and Earth, and He has given us our Orders. If you are interested in Marching to the Beat of His Heavenly Drum, then, come with us and let us Worship the Lord and Exalt His Name Together.
