Bill Clinton is visiting a school. In one class, he asks the students if anyone can give him an example of a "tragedy."
One little boy stands up and offers: "If my best friend, who lives next door, was playing in the street and was hit by a car and was killed, that would be a tragedy."
"No," Clinton responded, "That would be an ACCIDENT."
A girl raised her hand and said "If a school bus with 50 children drove off a bridge, killing everyone involved...that would be a tragedy."
"I'm afraid not," Clinton explained. "That would be a GREAT LOSS ." The room fell silent; none of the other students would volunteer a thought. "What's this," the President asked. "Isn't there any one here who can give me an example of a tragedy?"
Finally a boy in the back of the room raised his hand and was recognized. In a timid voice he said, "If an airplane carrying Hillary and Bill Clinton was blown up by a bomb, THAT would be a tragedy."
"Wonderful!" Clinton exclaimed. beaming. "Marvelous! And can you tell me WHY that would be a tragedy?"
"Well," said the boy, "because it probably wouldn't be an ACCIDENT and it certainly would be no GREAT LOSS!"
