Monday, May 19, 2003 6:13 pm Dr. Finbar Loiters Beside a Loudspeaker Cone Dear Fondly-Regarded Recipients, In this edition we tell you about our recent recording sessions, and this week's special event. PETE'S PILGRIMAGE The cogs are turning in the mechanism of the invisible timepiece that sits atop Pete's head. The timepiece groans audibly as the (invisible) display registers thirty years. When a man feels his youth slipping away, he is compelled to seek out a place of deep spiritual significance. It is the cardboard Yak's head we seek, its coiled, red eyes blazing in the night. Pete is strong. He could probably negotiate the perilous journey alone. But we must accompany him lest his resolve should fail. Open Stage at the Yak Speakeasy, this Thursday, 160 Hoddle St., Abbotsford. 8.15pm onwards. LAST WEEK Over the weekend, we finished off the recording for our entry to JJJ's Unearthed thingie. Sunday, we mixed. To the bemusement of all concerned, the final results were more or less tolerable. To celebrate, we dropped by at the Marquis of Lorne Hotel. We marched in and demanded to have them play our CD through their sound system. At first, they refused. When we threatened to bring in our instruments and play it live, they changed their minds. THE DR. FINBAR COMPETITION Mk. IV The competition has been run and won. We will be contacting the winner presently to arrange deployment (er, delivery) of the prize. Next week we will unmask the winning entry. That's all for this week, The Dr. Finbar Trio
