Wednesday, April 9, 2003 12:04 pm Dr. Finbar Snarls Like a Cornered Sasquatch Hello Friends, Welcome to this week's gibberings about the past, present and future. THE PAST Sam was born in a ramshackle hospital during a harsh, biting English winter. His mother traversed the dark and savage country roads by foot so that her son could be born safely. All too soon, the forceps came. Sam heaved and screamed... Meanwhile, somewhere else in England, Pinnochio got his wish and was turned from a jumble of sticks into a real, live boy. Geppito was very pleased, and renamed his son "Pete". Oh, and Neil went on 3AK yesterday to burble about philosophy. Before he went on air, he sat in a waiting room; it's a little like going to the dentist without the drilling. Anyway, while in the waiting room, he stumbled across Paul McDermott, who was also waiting to go on the air. He actually has quite a soft and gentle voice. But he snapped admirably into character when they summoned him to the microphone. Thereafter, it was Neil's turn. He rabbitted on for a while and took some talkback before returning to the external world. THE PRESENT You are reading this BS. THE FUTURE We have a gig at the Vibe Cafe Bar, 123 Smith St., Fitzroy. It's on the evening of Friday, April 18. In addition to our good selves, you will be able to see and hear talented, award-winning singer/songwriter Jessica Paige. You will not, however, be able to smell or manhandle her without her permission. (You may feed her though. She likes to be fed, apparently, especially after playing). Check out her website (http://www.jessicapaige.net). As you can see, she even has her own domain name. We too could have our own domain name. But only if we changed the name of our band to "Geocities". More details about the gig will appear in the next edition of this rag. This Thursday evening, Sam and Neil are heading to our spiritual home, the Yak Speakeasy, 160 Hoddle St., Abbotsford, to road-test some secret new solo material. We'll get there somewhere between 8.45-9pm. (There are rumours that Pete might also put in an appearance...) Only for the brave. MP3s OF THE WEEK This week we bring you a couple of dubious MP3s for your downloading pleasure. More Than I Asked For A little curiosity that probably won't be played by Dr. Finbar. Just possibly, Neil might put it on the new solo CD he keeps threatening to record and foist upon the world. Baby Face Not written by us, but fun to play! Written by Bennie Davis and Harry Akst in 1926. To download these, visit: http://www.geocities.com/friskylichen/songs.html That's all for this week. We're heading off to see our clairvoyant soon, so next week should see the return of our occasional feature, Voices from the Past. Have a scorched almond, The Dr. Finbar Trio
