Monday, September 30, 2002 4:08 pm Dr. Finbar Goes Fishing. Good afternoon all, The sun's out, and unless you're working in a basement, it's a lovely day. In this week's edition, the Dr. Finbar Trio plays at the Yak, the Dr. Finbar Trio begins its recording career, and Pete moves house. LAST WEEK Last Thursday we played at the Yak Speakeasy. There were some really good acts, of which perhaps the highlight was a high school kid who came in and sang some great songs skilfully embellished with intricate guitar lines. The night ended with an all-in jam including probably every wannabe guitar hero in Melbourne; coruscating guitar and all amps turned up to 11. Oh, and there was us as well. We decided, that being Grand Final Week, and all, we ought to do an impromptu version of "Good old Collingwood Forever". We never really recovered, having alienated at least 90% of the audience and at least one member of our band. However, and this is a big "however", the proprietors of the Yak have agreed to give us a proper gig. OK, admittedly Pete had to rough them up a bit first (while Sam and Neil hid in the broom cupboard). But as always, there are some details to iron out... TROLLEYLAUNCHER RECORDS MOVES FORWARD Pete has taken an extraordinary leap of faith by investing in a digital multitrack recorder. (The markets are nervous about this reckless capital outlay, and the price of Pete Butland Inc. shares is in decline). Although he's been scratching his head a lot, Pete seems pleased with his new toy. We spent some time recording over the weekend and hope to finish a demo CD in the near future. THIS WEEK Unfortunately, we have to report that in order to carry out maintenance work on our ears, eyes, mouths and hands, the Dr. Finbar Trio will be sequestered this week. If this situation changes, we will let you know. PETE MOVES HOUSE Pete moves house. That's all for now, The Dr. Finbar Trio.
