Tuesday, October 29, 2002 1:43 pm Dr. Finbar Nestles Among the Egrets in an Eyrie Good afternoon, Here is the news. SAM IS BACK The Man From S.T.R. has returned from his trip to South Africa. Was he working for the good guys or the bad guys? We can only speculate. However, it can be confirmed that he has been approached to act in an advisory capacity for the next Bond film. LAST WEEK The Dr. Finbar Duo arrived shortly after 9.30pm at the world famous Yak Speakeasy. Thanks to those of you who were present to witness the birth. The Dr. Finbar Duo knew that it was not long for this world, so it sang like a featherless nightingale and drummed like a mongoose on speed. We expected it to pass away at the end of the evening, but it clung to life with unexpected tenacity. It did not succumb until Sam's plane hit the tarmac. Last Saturday, Pete and Neil finished the recording for our three-song demo CD that we're going to use to harangue innocent publicans. Next comes the mixing, and then... THIS WEEK It's not clear at this stage whether we'll be playing. So for the moment, assume that we won't be. If things change then we'll send you a (mercifully) brief email with the details. THE DR. FINBAR COMPETITION Mk. II Owing to the success of our inaugural competition (where "success" is defined as the receipt of more than one entry) we have arranged a second competition. In fact, it has been in preparation for some weeks now. We were hoping to launch it this week, but we've been beset by logistical difficulties. More specifically, until we find someone with a digital camera, the project is not going to get off the ground. But don't fret. The longer it takes to arrange, the larger the pot will grow. Intrigued? VOICES FROM THE PAST We visited our clairvoyant last week. She looked a little more seedy than the last time we saw her, but I guess even clairvoyants have their problems. Robert Schumann: "They say my orchestration sucked. Well, I managed to compose four symphonies and a concerto or two. These guys don't even know what an orchestra is." Liberace: Yeah, well at least I could play the piano. That's all for now, The Dr. Finbar Trio.
