THE RECENT PAST Last night we trialled some new material at the Ninth Ward on Flinders Lane. Not exactly a performance from the top drawer, but nor did we add significantly to our rotten fruit and vegetable collection. The Ninth Ward is actually quite a nice place to play. They have a big stage, employ a guy to do the mixing, and the audience (largely made up of other performers) is mostly harmless. Last Thursday we played again at the Velour Bar. That one went quite well, I think. I even thought I saw the woman behind the bar doing something that looked suspiciously like dance movements during a couple of our songs. Of course, being visually challenged as I am, I could have been mistaken... The best news, though, is that the guy who runs open mike at the Velour Bar, and who also works as a booking agent for other venues, liked us enough to suggest that we contact him in the new year and he will see about getting us some proper gigs. THE NEAR FUTURE This Thursday night we're playing an open mike night at THE YAK SPEAKEASY, 160 Hoddle St., Abbotsford. Acts start from 8pm. If you have nothing better to do (and you have precisely 5.2 seconds to come up with an alternative plan) then we'll see you there. But seriously, if you're at a loose end and feel like a night out watching semi-competent amateur musicians, then come along. We're also going to be playing next Tuesday at an open mike yet to be determined, and then every Tuesday thereafter for the rest of our lives. Enough nonsense for the time being. Bye! Neil.
