Scheduling
Committee Report
The Scheduling
Committee met to discuss those options we felt would enable us to provide the
highest quality services to our students. Each stakeholder group within the
school was represented. The committee spent the morning discussing questions
and concerns related to current scheduling and building a framework for the
master schedule. The afternoon was spent
in a discussion of best practices as they relate to how we can best serve our
population while maintaining the goal of continuous improvement for all
students. The afternoon session was facilitated
by Central Office Personnel.
Under Central
Office Personnel guidance, the committee brainstormed three possible options
for the utilization of staff and implementation of services. The committee then
discussed both the disadvantages and advantages of each option. Finally, the committee rated the options in
regards to how the model would best meet the needs of our students (see Figure
1). The model rated with the lowest number was deemed the model most
appropriate in order to meet the needs of our student population and meet the
goals of continuous improvement and student achievement.

Once the
committee reached a consensus regarding the model which would best meet the
needs of the population served, they then created a framework for a master
schedule which included specials, resource services and lunch (see Figures 2,
3, and 4). The master specials’ schedule
is a representation of one day and would simply be rotated in order to schedule
the remainder of the week. The master schedule is based on 12 classes per grade
level. Each class is coded K, 1, 2 for grade level and A-L for each of the 12
homerooms.
