Summary of
Evaluations
Please provide a summary of both the teachers’ and parents’ comments/evaluation of the Parent-Teacher Conferences. This will help in making improvements for succeeding years and reporting to the Board of Education. Keep the actual teacher and parent comments/evaluations on file at your school.
1. Summary of teacher evaluation/comments.
Early Dismissal Conference
Days were:
Organized and Helpful
Great
Very successful and
rewarding
Greatly assisted by
non-homeroom teachers supervising bus duty at 12:50
Effective
Really gave teachers an
opportunity to meet with parents and discuss academics/behavior
Helpful because I was able
to listen to parents’ concerns
Very beneficial – I think it
is important to have that one on one with the parents and it helps to plan at a
time they can come in
Early Dismissal Conference
Days could be improved by:
Making sure that all parents
have transportation to the conference
Parents being held
accountable for not showing up
Making reminder calls to
parents about times and dates
Somehow insuring that all
parents attend their conference, especially those whose students are below
grade level
Scheduling conference days
on Thursday and Friday
Having two full days or
three half days and increasing individual conference time from 15 minutes to 30
minutes
Having reading teachers do a
few conferences for each
Not being forced to meet
with parents that you have just met with or who you do not need to meet with
Having all bus students
leave school at 12:30
Stressing to parents the
importance of being on time for conferences
Early Dismissal Conference
Days should be continued/discontinued because:
35
continued 0 discontinued
It is great to be able to
talk to each parent in a relaxed environment
For some it is the only time
to really communicate with parents
It gives teachers an
opportunity to express the importance of learning for students
Parents need to be informed
and involved
Teachers need to meet with
parents and discuss student progress
This allows parents the
opportunity to discuss their child’s progress in a non-threatening atmosphere
It gives the parents a
chance to come in a positive setting
It is very important for
parents to communicate with teachers about academics and behavior
It allows a lot of time
slots for parents with different schedules
It helps us help parents and
get more on a personal level to work with them and children
They emphasize the importance
of conferences and make it easier to meet
It allows the parent and
teacher to talk face to face about a students’ strengths and weaknesses
Early Dismissal Conference
days are/are not important because:
35
are important 0 are not important
It gives teachers and
parents time to bring up any questions and concerns
Parents need to see how well
or not well their child is doing
Parents can see the progress
or regression of their children without being disruptive to class time
Personal contact helps me to
understand the “whip” of my students behaviors
The information discussed is
vital
Parents want to understand
the report cards
It gave the parents a chance
to come in at a convenient time and unfortunately it forced some to come in
that needed to
In some cases it is the only
time you get to see the parents
It assists with parent
communication and student learning
It helps the teachers
understand the students better through the information provided by the parents
Other Comments:
Thank you for taking the students
who were waiting for the bus. It gave a few minutes to make last minute
preparations.
Thank you for helping with
bus students. It was wonderful to be able to conference without trying to
listen for bus numbers.
It would have been nice for
the classroom floors to have gotten some attention from a mop. We need to put
more effort into cleaning this school so that we make the best possible
impression on guests to our school.
It is sometimes easier for
parents to open up one-on-one. The conference days help us help our parents
help our students. Working together is always a win-win for all.
The only concern I have is
not having the “concentrated” schedule of teaching each subject thoroughly. For
example, EDNA time was cut in two. But other than that, everything was great.
I think there should be more
involvement from administration when there isn’t a response from a parent.
Administration should take immediate action to insure the conference takes
place at home or at school.
Perhaps conferences could be
held one day a week for two weeks. This might allow shift workers to more
readily attend.
Discontinuing early release
and conference days would be a disservice to teachers and families, especially
economically disadvantaged ones. The scheduling allows us to be flexible for
the benefit of the parents.
Total Teacher Evaluations
Completed 35/36 for a 97% return rate.
