EDUL6011 University of Georgia
Special Education Law for Administrators
Student: Dr. Freda Doster

This course looked at essential special education law concepts found in the United States and Georgia constitutions, statutes, regulations, and judicial decisions, with emphasis on mastering essential legal knowledge and on applying the law in educational settings.

This course included several topic areas related to special education law. In particular, students were asked to review the topic of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) under the Individuals with Disabilities Act and research the following questions:

1. What is an IEP?
2. What are the required components of an IEP?
3. Who makes up an IEP committee?
4. How often  must an IEP be reviewed?

Two websites were found to be particularly helpful:
www.ed.gov/policy/speced/guid/idea/tb-iep.doc and www.ed.gov/policy/speced/guid/idea/tb-iep-meetings.doc.
