Maned-Wolf--Care

RANGE: N. Paraguay. N. Argentina. Range much more restricted than formerly.
HABITAT: Savannah grass and scrub forest.
SIZE: 76 cms. (30 inches).
DIET: Small mammals, insects, birds and fruit.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Endangered. Possibly 2000 - 3000 in wild. Hunting loss of habitat to agriculture main reasons for decline.
NOTES: Fast runner. Monogamous. Wary but curious in captivity. Also known as the stilt-legged fox. The long legs give it a sight advantage in long grass. Introduced to Jersey Zoo in 2000.

Fencing
Fencing isn't a big factor for the maned wolf unless you have one at a zoo. It needs an open environment, but if you have to put up a fence, put one up but give them plenty of room to roam around.

Handling
You don't really handle a maned-wolf. You can watch it and take care of it at a zoo or preservation area since it is an endangered species. As far as handling, if you really got close to a maned-wolf, he would probably rip you into two.
You have to take care of maned-wolves now because they are endangered. You must take care of them. They are strong runners and hunt very well.

Diet
Maned-wolves can eat just about anything if they are hungry enough. If you get too close, they may be so hungry as to try to eat a human. Be careful around them. They are other carnivores and they like good meat.
