| 9. Jan. 2005- Profanity | ||||||||
| Profanity is something that, by most means, is forbidden, but is also becoming a part of everyday life. How many times a day do you say "fuck" or "shit"? In some places, such as England, it is appropriate to swear. Now, in America, it is becoming appropriate to let the "F-word" fly. There is a context issue toward the appropriateness of swearing. For example, saying "Fan-fucking-tastic" is an appropriate use, as opposed to "Beauti-fucking-ful". It all depends on where the accent is in the original. If the accent is placed on the second syllable, then it is appropriate to use the word "Fuck". If the accent is onany other syllable, then you are just swearing for the sake of swearing, and you need your mouth washed out with soap, which brings me to my next point. Parents are no longer punishing their kids as much for swearing as they used to. Back when I was younger, I got hit, or my mouth got washed out with soap if I swore. Nowadays parents are barely punishing their kids for swearing. Parents are even swearing in front of their little kids, like they think that they will not start using that word. The sad thing is that little kids will pick up what they hear from their parents. Television isn't doing any better too. Thanks to "The Osbournes" and "South Park", saying "fuck" has become cool again, and that just plain isn't cool. Now I know I'm making a big deal out of nothing, and five bcks says a few people have stopped reading by this point, but as a courtesy to others, please do not swear...bitches! |
