| 3 Dec. 2004- Catch Phrases- SPECIAL EDITION | ||||||||
| Alright, listen! I swear this will be the last one until next week. This is the last thing I want to get out to both of you who read this. Enjoy! Recently, all I have heard on (and off) the television set is catch phrases. Be it Dave Chapelle with "I'm Rick James, bitch!" or his (and Lli John's) "Yeah!", "Ok!", and "What!?", catch phrases are everywhere, including your kids. The old proverb says "Monkey see, monkey do.", and if your kide hear something funny or something that has a favorable outcome, then they are likely to imitate it. And it is not just kids who are imitating catch phrases. How many of you parents have said (in that Arnold Schwarzenegger (Hey! I spelled it right!) tone of voice) "I'll be back!", or "I want my Maypo" from the 1960s cereal commercial? Catch phrases are a part of life. How many times have we been saved by "Where's the beef?" or "Thanks Geritol!" or even "Whatchoo talkin' about, Willis?"? We've all used catch phrases at one time or another because it's our way of sayng "I'm not funny, but I want to be funny.". Catch phrases are our little way of saying "You're a funny person, and you're easily imitatable, especially by the unfunny." |
