This is an oil painting I recently purchased on ebay. It turned out on closer inspection to be a lithograph of some type. At magnification it clearly has pixels rather than brush strokes. It is still very old, or at least it looks old. Possibly it was done shortly after the turn of the century. It even has an inventory number on the stretcher that matches the type found in a German museum that owns some of his paintings. If anyone knows the history of such copies, please email me at [email protected]. I'd love to know if this was done by the artist himself, or if it is a much later copy. Even the signature is clearly pixelized at 30x magnification.
