Roughneck days

In the winter of 1979 I worked for MERCURY DRILLING CORPORATION drilling, exploring for oil and gas for AMOCO CORPORATION in the 'Wildhorse' oil field in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, elevation 7000 ft.
We drilled to a TD (total depth) of 12,500 ft. and hit several gas bearing strata which produced and flowed gas freely once we completed the well.
I gave a guy a dollar to take this Polaroid of me with Mercury Rig #8 in the background since it was the 'ides of March' and the first time I has seen the ground without a cover of snow and ice since I arrived in Wyoming on January 5th.
Some days the high temperature was -15 degrees farenheit while the lows were as cold as -35 degrees, sometimes with winds up to 50 mph (that's some -90 degrees windchill factor)! Old timers told me that it was the coldest winter on record in fifty years.....I BELIEVE IT!

I have more pix of this time and will post them as I get them scanned.... most of them are 35mm color slides.
