Gary Simpson

Gary Simpson
I met Gary when I was 20 years old, right after he had completed working as the Production Coordinator on the feature film Where The Red Fern Grows. He also worked as the Assistant to the Producer on the feature film Dillinger, starring Warren Oates. Gary had some good stories about drinking Jim Beam Whiskey with Mr. Oates and some of the other crew members. Gary was a videographer and professional photographer. He settled into working as a school photographer for much of his life. He had a natural rapport with children always putting them at ease and getting a great smile out of them for posterity.
Gary and I had 25 years of friendship, assorted mayhem, wild times, shared women (in our twenties), adventures, trouble, good and bad memories together. Ever the individual, Gary ALWAYS marched to the beat of a different drummer. He was one of the most gentile persons I have ever met. I miss him.

A prophetic picture I took some years ago [those are Gary's empty sneakers in the foreground].

Gary 'hamming it up' for a picture in my old residence at the bar we called "Schlagers".

Gary and me posing for a Polaroid shot at 'Schlagers', in front of a surealistic painting I refer to as 'Bigfoot'.

In the 80's, we used my living room as a large 'speaker' for the music for "Schlagers". Just for fun we'd sometimes set up lights and take pictures. One time I set up the lights and all the light stands...it seemed funny at the time, so I set up a neutral background and...

...Gary took this picture while making me laugh....
...he could always make me laugh if he tried.

Gary, smoking and drinking and listening to cassette audio tapes...one of our favorite pastimes, other than smoking, drinking, and making cassette audio tapes.
