The AU. This is more a collection of scenes than a well thought out plan at this point. The AU is nameless, just...the AU. The main character is Draco, though other prominent ones are Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and especially Harry, as I've a sneaking suspicion that this will turn H/D. Or D/H. Or both. Other people are Lucius and Severus, though they don't become important until mid-way through the story. Also important is Remus, though his role I've yet to figure out, and Sirius, who's role is in the same duldrum statis as Remus'. Because this is an canocal AU (is such a thing even possible?) I'm trying to keep the characters as much in canon character as possible. This means that Ron is still a git, Hermione is still smarter than anyone has a right to be, Draco is still bitingly sarcastic, and Voldemort is still a meglomaniac with a distinct case of schizophrenia. The world: The world is basically the same general fantasy world that floats about so much. Technology never really took off; magic took its place. As magic is dominant in this world, the advance of Cold Iron never occurred. As a result, the Sidhe never left, but instead came into the open and the human population boom never occurred. So there are likely 500,000 humans in the world, and a fifth of that number Sidhe, both Seleigh and Unseleigh. Other races include Anumin, (shape changers) halflings (mongrel children of different races) and the occasional monster (creatures warped by scientific /magical experiments/spells). Cities are small and rare, though towns are common, particularly close together. The true centers for culture and advancement of the arts ar e the Elven glens, where both Seleigh and Unseleigh push their magical abilities. Unseleigh are more into the physical aspects of things, and tend to be more sultry, darker, of course, and more likely to touch. Their magic tends to be what is considered Dark Arts; spells that lie in the gray to black areas of things. Seleigh, by contrast, are more into the mental ways; forgoing physical pleasure to advance the mind and the mind's ability. Personally, their ways bore me and normally I wouldn't write them like this, but it's necessary to explain a few things in the course of the story. There is one technological haven in the world, which is a city completely run by humans who have little to no contact with other races. Sort of the Vernon and Petunia's of the human race, only.... smarter, I'd have to say. This might be formed out of the remnants of Rome. The technological progress they've made isn't as great as that of today, but in places it comes close. Steam technology, medical advances, etcetera, Their goal is to force magic out and let a technological age enter in, thinking that disease and famine could be prevented with science better than with magic. Also, they dislike the elves/other races as much as they do humans. Voldemort's uprising is connected to this group, as he might have been fathered by one of them or raised there or *something*, and the techies clashed with the group of elves that Voldemort had gathered. .. Something, at any rate. It's still unclear to me. More on this issue later. Wizards still exist. However, because the Sidhe are also there, it isn't as big a deal as it once was. Magic is out of the closet, as it were. However, because there are so many more Muggle humans than Wizarding ones, the blood was mixed. Because of this, actual wizards are hard to find, much magical humans are a dime a dozen. Various gifts have come out; there are schools on some of the major ones. Finding and Bardistry, being two. Telekinesis, telepathy, and all the good tele- things are at the same rate they occur in HP canon, as that has to do with innate gifts and not with magic. Real wizards are very rare; the only ones that I can mention off hand are Harry, Merlin, and possibly Voldemort himself. I'd say Taliesin, but he fits more with the Bard category. Plot and Characters: Draco: Because he's my favorite, he gets to go first. Draco is young during the story; in his 240s. He is a full blooded Seleigh Sidhe (have to explain the coloring somehow, ne?) who was cast out of his tribe for the actions of his father. The situation that caused this was Lucius getting word of what exactly Volde was up to, realized the implications of this (he's so smart!) and deciding to put a stop to it. It isn't as cut and dry as it appeared though, as those techies (gotta watch out for those techies. ..) have realized the implications of Cold Iron and are planning to use it against the elves and thus bring in the new technological age, blah blah blah. So Lucius wants to put a stop to that. At the same time, he wants to put an end to Volde's plots, because he recognizes that Volde doesn't want to save the elven world, he wants to rule it. And, according to Lucius , if anyone is t rule the elven world it should be him. With Severus at his side and Draco as his heir. ^_^ So Lucius makes his move to enter into Volde's camp, with the intention of moving up the ranks and overthrowing Volde and thus killing two birds with one stone. I don't think he'd actually move to rule the Elven world, however, as it's simply too chaotic for that. True Democracy and elves do not mix well. At least, not here. To enter Volde's camp, however, he needs the approval and backing of a major Unseleigh lord/lady. This is when he meets Severus, though he is not actually using Sevi for this purpose. The backing isn't good enough though, as Volde, being Volde and thus somewhat depraved and twisted, demands a sacrifice of all those who would join him. From Lucius he demands Draco. Lucius isn't about to give his son, but for the sake of everything and, being ruthless as he is, he sacrifices Draco's friend instead. He intends on leaving Draco there, as this is when Draco is only 122, by the standards that I am using, that correlates to a human year of 14 or 15. Volde doesn't notice the switch, though he might not have cared if he did. The problem with this is that Draco is still as attached to his father as he is in canon. He follows Lucius to his meeting with Voldemort, unbenownst to the both of them, and witnesses the bloodbath that insues. He's shocked and horrified - the boy who is cut down was like a brother to him, and it is his father who betrayed them in the doing so. To an Unseleigh Sidhe, no less. The spars between the Seleigh and the Unseleigh have not lessened with time... part of the reason Lucius needed such high support. Voldemort leaves, which is when Draco snaps out of his shock and moves to his friend. Lucius sees him, Draco sees that Lucius has seen him, but the ball is already rolling and Lucius doesn't want Voldemort to know that Draco is actually still alive, so he leaves without saying a word. Note: As previously said, the Malfoys in this story were known as "Bon Feit" or "Good Faith". Their had previously reigned over their glen, which was one of the largest in France, for several hundred years. It was Lucius ' grandfather who screwed this up, as he gave the rule to a non-family member. His son, Lucius' uncle, wasn't thought to be capable to keeping up to standard. That's how the Bon Feit Clan lost power. It was still a recent enough change for their family to weild considerable respect and glory; something like how I expect the Malfoys would have been treated three hundred years ago, when they were just out of their hey-day. Unfortunately , Lucius' plans to take back over the reign have not gone unnoticed, and this plot of his, since he didn't bother to tell anyone else about it, gave them an opening they needed to take down the Bon Feit family once and for all. Back to the story. Search parties looking for the boy stumble across Draco, who is holding his friend's body and is covered in blood. He doesn't tell the whole story; he says that Lucius was captured or mesmerized by oldemort or along those lines. This is the opening that the other Seleigh were looking for and they take it. Since Draco is the heir to the Bon Feit family, if he were to die, the family would too, as it appears that Lucius has gone insane and betrayed the Seleigh race as a whole. They take advantage of the situation by sending Draco out after Lucius, on a Quest, which was rarely done and never by one so young. Draco is still barely into his teenage mentality here... Sending a kid on a journey is insane, sending him after Voldemort is suicide. But fortunately, this is Draco we are talking about. Draco can handle it. For the most part, at any rate. So Draco sets out after Lucius, who is plotting to stop both Volde and the techies, who's location and name I've still yet to determine. ^_^ I'm going to stop it there for tonight. The story actually takes place long after this, when Draco has been on his own for over a hundred years. There is a lot involved in a Quest, but Lucius basically drops off the face of the Earth, as does Volde, when they are planning their next big move... (And giving Lucius an opportunity to cement his relationship with Severus... Yay!) There's a thing with Harry and Merlin, now that I've been opened to the possibility, and Ron/Hermione/Ginny come in later too. Also, on yet another note. There will probably be a good deal of notes, if my previous story plans have been any indication... So, on another note, hair in the Seleigh clans/Elhames, is very important. It's a cultural thing. Men and women wear their hair long, grown out. This is because there are a lot of famial baubles and charms that are woven into their hair, which show status and placement in the family, as well as in the Elhame. To cut one's hair is a sign of cutting off one's place in the family, or in the Elhame, which is never done, as family/Elhame is so much a part of their lives. On a Quest, however, hair is cut and worn unbound, generally around chin length. No ornimentation is worn, as a Quested is an unnamed exile, whether willingly undertaken or not. The length of the hair is important too, as once the Quest is completed, one's hair is pulled back into a tail again. Also, men wear their hair bound, either in a tail or in a braid. Women's hair can be worn loose, or braided on special occasions. Men's is always pulled back. So that's Draco's back story. At least, his back story when he was a kid. There's a lot more to it, seeing as he wanders in search for Lucius for over a 100 years. Draco spends nearly as much time outside of the Elhame as he does in it. What else happens then... Well, he does met up with one other character. He's a half-elf, human mother.
