Exminster Hospital
The former Devon County Lunatic Asylum was designed by Charles Fowler and opened in 1845. Prior to that there were a few small private asylums in the Devon area, put pauper patients were usually detained in the workhouse or sent to institutions out-of-county.

The plan of Exminster Hospital is very interesting, with ward blocks radiating out from a cresent shape with the admin block in the centre. See an arial view
here to get a better idea of it. I believe this is an example of an older plan that was considered out of date by the mid 19th century.

The hospital closed in 1985 and has been redveloped into housing. All other buildings on the site were demolished except for the chapel.
