Hypnos

I am drowned in sleep
gasping as I struggle for consciousness,
driven under by Hypnos' awesome waves.
Inestimable weariness fills my days
I sleep, then wait for sleep again.

I hold Time hostage--
hours and days have no meaning.
Only sleep exists for me.
Even when I wake Hypnos surrounds me,
I am merely a sleepwalker.

Yet Hypnos' other self haunts me--
his dreadful brother watches me
waiting only for Hypnos to claim me totally
For then Thanatos will hold me for his own.
