She stood of the onset of an eroding ground; the typical side effect earth took after the end. Staring into the orange bleached sunset of the sky, hands positioned in prayer and hope, Kairi spoke to the heavens, asking to once again see her long haired angel she met so long ago. To ask him for help, to save her.
You told me to call
you said You'd be there
And though I haven't seen You
Are You still there?
She wasnt much younger on that golden day at the island. As her two best friends Rikku and Sora, commencing with her a game of hide and seek, began the seeking, she found an insidious hiding place along the edge of a charcoal cliff over looking a lagoon, gently cast by the leaves of a palm tree. Anxiously, she stood and peered around the corner, to check her current safety status, her foot slipped out from under. Desperately, as the solid beneath her feet quickly dispersed into air, she plunged her hand and held an iron lock around a strayed branch growing between the cracks of the stone fixture. But, as she knew, it wouldnt support her weight for long, and the rough waters below were beckoning her to perform a face plant on the jagged rocks at their foot. With great understanding, the little Kairi began to sob helplessly and silently to her position, to her demise that waited not for long. Then, hues of a dark shadow crept from behind her small shoulders, standing still on the rock in front of her eyes. At last her grip became non existent, and she plummeted to earth. Eyes shut hard, anticipated what was soon to follow, she gasped hard to realize that instead of breaking into bits on the earth, she was floating in mid air. Oh wowie, can I fly?
However, looking up she saw that this sudden change of situation had little to nothing to do with her. She saw a man, full grown, tall, muscle bound, long silver flowing locks, and one proud black wing extend into space, obviously keeping them afloat. From that point on, she was moonstruck (so to speak).
I cried out with no reply and
I can't feel You by my side
So I'll hold tight to what I know
You're here and I'm never alone.
With great care and ability, the angel wafted slowly back to the surface, meekly placing the young Kairi atop a nearby sand dune, as he stood on the ground beside it, kneeling down to become eye level with the girl. She shuddered, her young and yet to mature feelings somewhat getting the best of her with the new object of her affection staying so close, blue eyes meeting green. Immediately the images and fantasies of the two running away together, never looking back, passed swiftly through her mind, completely unaware that he was inspecting her scrapped and bloody knee. He tore a slender piece of his black suit to use as a bandage. As he wrapped her injury, he asked Are you hurt anywhere else?
N-no she whispered.
Thats good. I was afraid that fall would end badly, he smiled, both bravely and comforting, making her cheeks grow all the more scarlet. Thats it. He was GOING to marry her, no ifs, ands, or buts about it!
Who are you? once again, only keeping her voice to the minimum of a whisper.
Sephiroth.
A-are you an angel? the question made him silently rumble with amused laughter. At this point, his work on her cut was finished.
I dont think Id go that far
I think so.
He grinned whole heartedly at her sincerity, and reached a long arm to his one wing. There he plucked a single black feather and handed it to her. Noticing her puzzled look, he quickly explained.
Use that feather, call my name to it, and Ill come running. Suddenly, a giant wave of black feathers, none his own as far as Kairi could see, engulfed him and he disappeared. As if on cue, Sora and Rikku rounded the corner, and came playfully running to their female companion. Still, though, Kairi was flushed to no end at her encounter with the angel Sephiroth.
That had been five years ago.
But Sephiroth, I lost your beautiful feather
And though I can not see You
and I can't explain why.
Such a deep, deep reassurance
You've placed in my life oh
We cannot separate
'Cause You're part of me
and though You're invisible
I'll trust the unseen
Cant you hear me?
Here, she needed him more than ever, if not to help her but to just see his beautiful face with the handsome features just once more. Just once more But it didnt seem like a reality that would soon fold into the truth, and as her beloved planet crumble literally around her feet, body beaten and bruise from surviving the harsh elements, she wept. It was all she wanted; it was her only last wish. She wrapped her around her waist, shivering and sobbing uncontrolled, she cried out from deep within her chest, from the bottom of your heart: Sephiroth!! You said youd come running!!
I cried out with no reply
And I can't feel You by my side
So I'll hold tight to what I know
You're here and I'm never alone
Another cliff collapsed, another moment went by, her eyes squeezing shut with all the force she could muster, with all the hope she could radiate from within her still small frame.
We cannot separate
You're part of me
and though You're invisible
I'll trust the unseen
But as hope soon turned to hopelessness, his shining vision came to her at last. Though he wasnt there in body, too late for him as he was destroyed not too soon before by his blonde counter part, he still made sure that whenever she did call out hed come running. Her final hours ticked to an end, no longer, however, was she sad or mad. She got her wish: she got to see him one last time, making her beyond the explanation of words to describe happiness.
I cried out with no reply
and I can't feel You by my side
So I'll hold tight to what I know
And with that, she smiled, the end closer, death right behind her shoulder. All she could do was act upon her emotions, and smiled to her last breath. Had she gone mad? Who knows. She only smiled all the way through. Because she had something, someone no one or nothing could separate her from, not even through death.
You're here and I'm never alone.
