BONAIRE

Bonaire is located off the coast of Venezula in the Caribbean.
It is located by the islands Aruba and Curacao. All three islands were once owned by the Netherlands and were referred to as the Netherlands Antilles. However, a few years ago Aruba gained their independence, so now it's only Bonaire and Curacao that are still owned by the Netherlands.
Salt is mined on the island and can be seen when driving around some parts.
The amount of salt on the island helps with the flamingo population. Unbeknown to many people, the pink color of the flamingos comes from the amount of salt in their diets. So the more salt, the pinker they will be and vice versa. There is a large poplutation of flamingos on the island.

My parents were missionaries down there with Trans World Radio. I was born in the town of Kralendijk and lived there for 2 years and then in Venezula for 6 months. I don't remember anything from it, just stories that my parents have told me. Maybe one day I will be able to go back there...maybe even for my honeymoon?
