Bar Trees

Hi J
I lived on that extraordinary and unique ranch in the mid 70's and must admit that those years were some of the most wonderful and educational years of my life. I have always explained the experience as wonderful. James, Kenny D, Martha, Teri, Bob, Nancy, George, Belle & Leeves..... I lived over the studio. James built a loft bed for me made out of petrified driftwood that we gathered off the beach after the hurricane. If I looked out of one window in my bedroom, I could see the foam tree house built by James and Buddy. If I looked out of the other window, I could see the castle. The music was not what drew me to the ranch when I first moved there. It was just one of the excellent added benefits that was bestowed upon me while living on the ranch. David S is a wonderful man and musician. I consider myself blessed to have been a part of the Ranch. Stone pony was a lot of fun. My memories of the ranch would make a great book. Have our paths crossed?

Jay, hello
This is Gillian (Martlew). I lived at the Ranch in the early 80's (upstairs above 'Chicken Paul's Room). I recently found your website while looking for stuff on the ranch. Wow, so neat to find you. How are you? Shelley and I left the Ranch in 1984 and I think that you were running a tiling business then if my memory serves me correctly. It sounds as if you have really followed your musical career. I remember when you and the band used to practice downstairs, was it in the garage? I think that one of the songs I remember you playing was burning down the house? I recently found out that the Ranch is no more. My brother Neil went to NJ to visit some old friends and told me the sad news. He said that there is absolutely nothing left at all. Do you know how "chicken Paul" is doing, whether 'Buddy" the clown is still around? I heard the awful news about James, he must have died the year I came back to the States (1993). I now live in New Hampshire.
You can find my website at: www.gillianmartlew.com
Would love to catch up with you.

Hi Jay,
My name is Peggy Dyas and I moderate the Yahoo (discussion) group named "LongBranchNJmemories." One of our members inquired about the Elberon Ranch and I found your web page from a search of the net. I forwarded your page to our group for information. I'm emailing you to extend an invitation to you to join our group, if you would be interested in reminiscing about "the old days" in Long Branch. The web page address is at the bottom of the page I'm forwarding to you, but if you should have any problems in subscribing, please email me and I will try to help you. We only have 20 members so far, as I just started the group last year. Once you are subscribed (it's free to subscribe), you can then read all the archived messages, and that might give you a better idea of the kinds of topics discussed or posted by group members. We'd love to have you join and tell us more about the history of the Elberon Ranch, since it is a very "low traffic" list and not very many posts. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Happy New Year!

Dear Jaris,
It is strange that I happened upon this site. I grew up with Seth Langer, grandson to the founder of the company and son of Abe Langer who took over the company with his brother Rudy and their sister.
Seth and I were best friends from childhood, in the late 1960s, up until a few years ago. Ironically, our grandfathers were both immigrant businessmen who made good in Jersey City and were themselves freinds. The "old man",who was a tough Russian and didn't take to many people, always liked me because he respected my grandfather.
I remember in the 1970's spending time at the Ranch and the house on the beach on Ocean Avenue. In fact it was Seth and I who got his grandfather's boat in shape for OP SAIL in 1976. We were down at the Ranch during the time you referred to on your site.
I miss those days. The beach house is gone. Seth has moved far out of the country and then I read your piece on the selling of the ranch. I don't know when it was written so I don't know what the current status is. Please let me know.

Just saw the E Ranch
My name is Kenney DeCamp
I am the Physician Assistant who worked at Monmouth Medical center and lived in the front garage with Frank Ferrucci living in the back behind the rug wall I'm the one with Bob Ward & James' help, built the large screen door and the telephone pole loft bed. I also worked with James and George Slavin to foam the tree house and horse trailer. as a matter of fact I have a reel to reel video (VHS) of the E Ranch the tree house and the trailer going down the E Ranch drive showing the castle. I borrowed an original Sony portable video EQ from Brookdale college and shot a days worth. Martha Fox Harry was James lady and sister to Deborah Harry, I started dating one of the singers in Deb's band Stilletto and produced the first Blondie show (Stone Pony), I was also the opening act with my mime dance show along with Mariella Patella. Bruce was in the audience and Clarence & Federricci would drive around with me in an old Volvo looking for girls. Thanks for the memories.
