note* I know that I probably have the itinerary off and all that but frankly
guys this is fiction, which means it’s not true, which means that any timeline
I pick is right because it’s happening in my very own crazed mind. That’s my
warning and apology for anyone who finds it offensive that I’m not following
their exact schedule.
She
opened the door after she had settled herself in her room at the New York hotel
and smiled, “This is becoming a habit.”
“What exactly is this?” He asked stepping past
her into the room.
“I have no idea.” She answered truthfully, if
she hadn’t heard about Rodney that day she would have had a definite answer for
him, but right now she wasn’t sure. Do you forget someone who used to have your
heart? She didn’t know.
He put his hands on her waist, “Me neither,
this is sort of a different development for me.”
She inhaled sharply; it was insane what he did
to her mind. Every time he was within a three-foot radius of her she swore her
heart pumped faster, “Different…” She licked her lips, “Right…different.”
“See now this…” He touched her lips and smiled,
“That’s a whole new dynamic for me.”
“What? My lips?”
“No what you do with your lips every time I’m
around you.”
“I lick them.”
“Exactly. Why?”
“Because frankly every time I’m around you I
want to taste you.”
“You already have.”
She smiled at him and finally returned his
touch by putting her arms around his neck, “I know and now I’m addicted. You’ve
made me an addict, what are you going to do about it?”
“A few things come to mind actually.”
“You don’t say, well then do share.”
“Only if you promise not to kick me out this
time.”
Putting a hand up she smiled, “Scouts honour
you don’t leave this room till the morning…at the very least.”
“I like those odds.” He was speaking so close
to her mouth she thought she was going to die in anticipation.
“Stop…” She breathed, “Talking.”
He smiled against her mouth; her reaction to
him was an ego boost to say the very least. He didn’t understand it and wasn’t
about to ask.
He was afraid to open his eyes, that was it
bone chilling fear stopped him. Slowly he opened one eye then another and
smiled, “There you are.”
“Took you long enough.” She smiled back at him;
“I thought you were going to hide those gorgeous blue orbs forever.”
“I really have to thank genetics for them,
they’ve served me well in the past.” He stretched and yawned; “Wait…” He sat
up, “What time is it and am I late?”
She smiled, “Honestly you would think I didn’t
do my job well at all with the way you’re acting.”
“You don’t work for me.” He stated.
“And thank God for that, I don’t take to
sleeping with my employer.” She sat up with him, “Bad for business.”
“Right, yet another reason why I’m glad I’m not
Dom.”
“Anyway, you guys have some MTV stuff and interviews
today but they only start at 2 because of the time change you’ve gone through.”
“In short?”
“You have three hours.”
“Perfect.” He grabbed her and slid back under
the covers, “I don’t have to move for at least a few hours.”
Allowing him to wrap his arms around her she
snuggled up against him, “I take it that means I don’t have to move either.”
“Not unless you want to.”
“Nope I’m fine.” She said, she knew exactly
what she was going to say to Rodney, he could go fuck himself for all she was
concerned there was no way she could compete with…well whatever was happening
Rodney couldn’t compete with it. Could he?
“Did you ask her?” Dom wanted to know as they
waited for their interview to start.
“It’s complicated.” Elijah protested.
“What’s complicated? You open your mouth, the
word’s ‘go out with me in LA’ come out she says yes and life is great. How is
this complicated? Explain.”
“Well I mean…uh it’s just cause…I mean it’s
like this.”
“Uh huh, yeah I feel really enlightened over here.”
Dom rolled his eyes, “In short what you’re telling me is it isn’t at all
complicated you’re just chicken shit.”
“No I…okay maybe.”
“I have no idea why. I don’t think a woman
could BE more painfully obvious about her attraction to you.” Dom said then
lowered his voice to a barely audible whisper “And I’m saying that around girls
that have your name on their face.”
Elijah chuckled, “Yeah okay fine I’ll ask her,
just not now.”
“That’s all I need to hear.” Dom finally
relented, “Hullo there ladies how are you?” He said rather loudly as he walked
over to the crowd of fans trying to get close to them.
“Dylan come here a sec.” Elijah called her over
during a break in the interview he and the other three hobbits were conducting.
She jogged up him, “Yes?” She hugged her
itinerary to her chest and tried to stay a few steps away from him.
He smiled at her, “You know I could yell this
request, but I really don’t think you want me to.”
“What request?”
“Come here…” He motioned with his finger, “It’s
a secret.”
“Are you trying to get me enemies Lij?” She
eyed the people who were watching them.
“Not intentionally no. Come on D I promise I
won’t touch you.” He held his hands up.
She laughed, “Oh all right.” She stepped up to
him then realized why it hadn’t been a good idea, she could smell him and that
was bad enough. ‘Behave Dylan, there are fans who will hurt you.’ She thought
to herself.
“Go out with me tomorrow?” He whispered near
her face.
Stepping back she stared at him wide eyed, “In
LA? In public?” She asked.
“A date usually entitles a public place D and
you were planning on being in LA with us were you not?” His heart was starting
to sink, was she going to say no?
“Oh well yeah of course umm…” What about
Rodney? Wait a minute what did she mean what about Rodney? Smiling at him she
nodded, “I’d like that.”
“Perfect.” He smiled, “I’ll see you…” He
cleared his throat, Dylan looked over her shoulder; one of the reporters was
becoming a little too interested in their conversation. “…later.” He whispered.
“Of course Mr. Wood.” She said rather loudly
and much to his amusement. “I’ll get right on that.” She walked away quickly
hoping that no one noticed her blushing. He’d just asked her out, this whole
‘thing’ was becoming more official as time wore on.
“So tomorrow we are on yet another plane which
will set down allowing us a few hours off before they have to be ready for that
premiere.” Torrie repeated the information to Dylan as they waited for the guys
to finish their interviews, “You know as much as I love this movie I’m almost
sick of it. If I have to watch him dangle that damn ring over the fires of
Mordor one more time I’m going to scream ‘oh just drop it already you stupid
hobbit!’ I really will.”
Dylan burst out laughing, “Drama must run in
the family Tor. So umm can you help me with something?” She asked leaning
closer to her friend.
“Sounds intriguing what’s up?”
Looking around to make sure no one was paying
attention to them Dylan whispered, “I have to get ready for a date.”
“What!” Torrie exclaimed loudly, “He finally
asked you out?”
“Shut up!” Dylan hissed as a make-up artist
walked by and raised an eyebrow, “It would help if this wasn’t broadcast to the
nation just yet.”
“Right, sorry love.” Torrie lowered her voice,
“You are going on a date with the hobbit right? Not that Rodney fellow.”
Dylan had needed to tell someone and the
obvious choice had been Torrie. “No not Rodney. I haven’t even called him and I
don’t intend to.”
“So it is a hobbit then?” Torrie was giggling,
“That’s brilliant!”
Dylan had changed her outfit so many times she
almost forgot what she was wearing. Walking through the bathroom for what had
to be the millionth time in the last minute she finally heard the knock she’d
been waiting for. She tried to remember to breathe properly before turning the
knob and swinging the door open with a smile. “Right on time.”
He smiled back, “You look amazing.”
“As do you.” She said as she grabbed her purse
and coat. “So where to?”
“Something to eat, I’m famished.” He put a hand
on the small of her back and led her into the elevator.
When he kissed her neck after she leaned
against him in the elevator she laughed, “You’re hungry for food right?”
He chuckled against her skin, “Of course, what
else would I be hungry for?”
The doors opened into the lobby so she quickly
stepped away and smacked him, “Don’t even get me started.” She leaned into his
ear, “I don’t put out on the first date.”
He burst out laughing while they walked through
the lobby, “Damn there go my plans, guess we’re going to McDonalds then.”
“Oh is that how it is?” she asked as they got
into the car, “The restaurant we go to depend on sexual favours?”
He nodded with a grin, “Gotta make it worth my
while and all.”
“I think I’ve earned myself a week of exclusive
dinners already.” She retorted with an eyebrow raised.
“You know you just may be right.” He pretended
to think about it for a moment, “Fine no McDonalds.”
“That’s what I thought.” She leaned against
him, “Now we can talk dessert.”
“I think the waiter has a crush on you.” Dylan
observed after he had brought their meal.
“Proves he’s either blind or has impeccable
taste.” Elijah said with a shrug.
“Go figure we get a gay waiter so even HE is
drooling over you.” She gave a dramatic sigh, “No drool for me.”
“I can drool if you want me to but I assure you
it’s far from attractive.” He said with a smirk.
“Dylan!” A loud voice cried from behind her,
“Dylan Saylor!”
Arms came around her neck she was scared for a
moment before she recognized the large skull ring on his finger, “Pinkie!” She
exclaimed getting up so she could turn around and engulf the man in a hug,
“What are you doing here?”
The large man indicated over his shoulder with
his thumb, “Rod and I are having a business dinner.”
Her heart stopped, “Hello Dylan.” The tall
blonde man stepped around his friend and smiled at her timidly, “I didn’t
expect to see you here.”
She stared at him for a minute, it was the
first time she’d seen him since they’d broken up. When he stepped forward to
hug her she took in his scent and all sorts of memories came flooding back, “Hi
Rodney.” She finally said.
Meanwhile Pinkie sat himself down and extended
a meaty hand to Elijah, “Hey man I’m Pinkie.”
Elijah was slightly taken aback by the
insertion of these two men into their date and quite put off by Dylan reaction
to this Rodney guy. He took the offered hand and shook it firmly, “Elijah.”
His voice jarred her back to reality, letting
go of Rodney she inhaled and tried to smile, “Elijah this is Rodney and Henry
they’re old friends of mine.”
“I ain’t gonna be your friend any longer if you
go and tell strangers my name is Henry.” Pinkie growled.
“Sorry darlin’.” Dylan said with a laugh, “This
is Pinkie.”
“He mentioned that.” Elijah said when it became
painfully obvious that these guys weren’t leaving he sighed, “Why don’t you
guys join us?”
“Hey thanks man.” Rodney sat down, “We haven’t
seen D here in forever have we babe?” He patted her hand.
“Babe?” Elijah asked.
Dylan cleared her throat, “We uh, used to
date.”
“Yeah and I fucked it up, stupidest mistake of
my life.” Rodney said while staring at her.
“Interesting.” Was all Elijah could get out of
his mouth, this evening was turning into a soap opera scene for a really bad
movie.
Pinkie was staring at him then snapped his
fingers, “Hey wait a minute.” He declared, “You’re Elijah Wood! The guy from
Lord of the Rings.”
He nodded, “Yeah that’s me.”
“Wow good to meet ya dude!” Pinkie took his
hand again and shook it vigorously. “You were fucking awesome in that movie
man.”
“Thanks.” Elijah tried to get his hand back
without harming himself.
“Does this mean you finally got out of
Savanelli’s?” Rodney asked Dylan then looked at Elijah, “You got yourself a
kick ass assistant here.”
“Uh.” Dylan cleared her throat, “I umm don’t uh
work for…”
“She actually works for my friend Dom.” Elijah
finished the sentence for her. Why didn’t she tell them they were interrupting
their date?
“That’s the guy that play’s Merry right?”
Pinkie said, “Him and Pippin were fucking great too!”
“I never pegged you as a Lord of the Rings fan
Pink.” Dylan laughed nervously.
“That’s cause you never wanted to see the
movies with us remember?”
“I uh didn’t?” She kept herself from looking at
Elijah she knew if he could see her eyes he’d know that he was the reason she
hadn’t watched them.
“Yeah you always found some reason not to go, I
don’t know why.” He smacked Elijah’s arm, “Those movies fucking rock man.”
He rubbed his arm, “Thanks.” He said again not
at all sure what to say anymore.
“So how have you been D?” Rodney asked he’d
figured out that the two were probably not having a business meeting and he
wanted to mess that up any way he could.
“Busy with work.” She tried to be curt but his
look was unnerving.
“Have you talked to Jay lately?”
She rolled her eyes, “He called me in New Zealand
telling me to get a job.”
“You’ve gotta be kidding!” Rodney exclaimed.
“He’s an elite breed of looser.” Pinkie
commented.
“You said it.” Rodney agreed, “I hope you told
him where to go.”
“In not so many words.” Dylan quipped.
“Danny came by the shop the other day.” Pinkie
said, “Told me you hadn’t called him in awhile.”
She smacked her forehead, “Shit! I knew I’d
forgotten something I’ve just been so…” She paused then forced herself not to
look where he was sitting, “…busy.”
“He’s doing really well for himself these
days.” Rodney commented.
She nodded, “Yeah, after he got the job at that
firm he’s been nothing but happy about work.”
“Are he and Morgan pregnant yet?” Pinkie asked.
“Nope and believe me it’s pissing them both
off…” She went on to describe the procedures her brother and his wife were
going through in an effort to conceive.
Elijah watched the conversation for a bit, when
he realised he’d probably not be a part of it any time soon he stood up. No one
really paid attention when he fished into his wallet and pulled out some cash.
He waited to see if Dylan would look at him but she was engrossed in something
Rodney was saying. Shrugging he dropped the money onto the table and left
without a word.
Dylan actually noticed that Elijah was leaving
only when she saw his retreating back head towards the door. “Damnit.” She
muttered. Half of her wanted to jump up and chase after him and the other half
was pissed off that he’d just left without a word.
“I guess we aren’t stimulating enough for the
actor.” Rodney quipped feeling slightly triumphant, now he had Dylan to
himself.
Pinkie picked up the cash that Elijah had left
on the table, “He gives a fucking generous tip either that or he wants us to
buy ourselves drinks.”
“I say let’s order some drinks.” Rodney said
with a laugh. He looked a Dylan and was all of a sudden serious, “I’ve missed
you D.”
She had been in the middle of a mental debate
when he said that. It was a bad thing for him to say because she remembered how
manipulative he had been. It was his need to be the centre of attention and in
charge of Dylan’s life that had caused her to break up with him in the first
place. “Missed controlling me you mean.” She started to reach for her purse.
“Wait.” Rodney put a hand on her arm. Pinkie
wasn’t paying much attention at this point; he was trying to order a good drink
from the waiter who was patiently pointing things out on the menu to him. “I
know I was a prick D, I should have given you the freedom to be who you are and
I didn’t.”
“No you didn’t and you still don’t. I was on a
date Rod, key word…WAS.” She shook her head knowing that IF Elijah ever talked
to her again it’d be a miracle.
“You could have stopped talking to me at any
point Dylan.” Rodney said with confidence, “Maybe inwardly you know I’m better
for you.”
That was it, the straw that broke the camel’s
back so to speak. Dylan stood rather quickly almost knocking the chair back,
“Only I know what’s better for me Rod and I can assure you it’s not you. In
fact what’s better for me just walked out that door and I need to find a way to
get him back.” She leaned down and kissed Pinkie’s cheek, “It was good to see
you again sweetie.” She said sincerely then left without a glance back at
Rodney.
