Epilogue

So how shall we start this?

How about when you begged my forgiveness?

I wouldn’t call it begging.

Grovelling maybe…

That’s a better word.

“Oh we aren’t together anymore.” These were words right out of Kate Bosworth’s mouth. While this is a romance surrounded by many questions from the beginning it appears that this young starlet is speaking the truth. She’s appeared out in public with a gentleman she will only identify as Luke. “We just drifted apart.” These were the only words she said about her apparent two-year relationship with heartthrob Orlando Bloom. Bloom’s agent wouldn’t return calls for comment.

Braedon read over the little blurb written in a supermarket tabloid that someone had left in the break room. She chewed thoughtfully on the last bite of her bagel. “Interesting.” She mumbled to herself. It was approximately a year since she had left Spain in a relative hurry. She now worked at a firm in Winnipeg handling their budgets. It was tedious boring work and she sometimes wondered if those weeks in Spain were a dream. They of course were not as she was reminded whenever Elijah called to say hello or Jessie sent her yet another postcard from the school she was attending in Glasgow.

“I didn’t know you read those things.” Said Tim, the firm’s vice-president, he only had the job because his father owned the firm and spent most of his days trying to hit on all available women. Braedon had put him off the most, every time he asked her out she found a reason to say no, yet he kept insisting.

She looked over her shoulder at him, “It was on the table.”

“I don’t know what anyone sees in that guy.” Tim tapped the photo in the article as he sat down next to Braedon, uninvited. “He’s probably some cheesy idiot who couldn’t sound intelligent if someone wasn’t feeding him the lines. Not that it matters, women like that only want a hot fuck.”

“He’s actually a sweetheart.” Braedon said before she could stop herself.

“Don’t tell me you’re a fan. Come on Braedon act your age, this guy wouldn’t look at you twice.” Tim laughed.

“And what’s that supposed to mean?”

“Well look at his ex girlfriend for example, prime quality woman there. You’re a nice piece Braedon but you can’t add up to that.” He pointed at Kate. “You’re not even in his realm, although you could hold your own as a one night fuck.” He mused as an afterthought.

She was fuming so much if someone would have told her smoke was coming out of her ears she would have believed them. “What do you know about his realm?” She asked.

Tim snickered, “I know that you’re dreaming if you think you can ever be part of it.” He full out laughed at her face, “My God you actually did. You should take me up on my offer, cause even I’m out of your league.” He was baiting her and she could see it.

Pushing her chair back as gracefully as she could she stared at him with a cold expression, “Thanks, but I wouldn’t want to bring down your average.” She managed to get out before hightailing it to her office.

A guy knocked on her door about an hour later with an envelope for her. “FedEx for you Miss. Saylor.”

“Thanks.” She said with a smile then examined the envelope. She couldn’t make out where it was sent from, the handwriting looked somewhat familiar but she couldn’t place it.

Tearing open the envelope she stared open mouthed at the three photos accompanied by a hand written note, “You left these in the trailer Braedon. I’ve contemplated sending them to you, but I wasn’t sure if you’d want them. I finally figured you could decide what to do with them. Love, Uncle Keith.” She ran her fingers over the photos Orlando had given her that one afternoon. She sighed as she remembered sitting with him in the trailer picking those photos. At that moment she had been deliriously happy, nothing had rivalled that since. So many times she’d wanted to just ask Lij for his number, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. What would she say? Sorry I left without saying goodbye but you were an idiot…no that wouldn’t have done at all. Maybe Tim was right maybe he was out of her league.

“It took me three weeks to convince your uncle to send you those.” She swore she was dreaming the sound of his voice so it felt like weeks before she could lift her head. He was leaning against the doorframe, “Hello.” He said with a soft smile.

“Y-you, umm…you…” She stuttered, “I mean…you, uh, you can’t be real.”

He stepped into her office and shut the door behind him, “Would you like me to give you a minute?”

She managed a smile at that, “No I’m fine you just startled me that’s all.” She got up to move around the desk and stand in front of him, “It’s good to see you Orlando.” It seemed like the right thing to say.

Bridging the gap between them he enveloped her in a hug and said, “I’ve missed you Braedon” Into her ear.

She had to step back in a vain effort to get her heart to start beating normally again, “What are you doing here?”

He pushing his fists into his pockets and sighed, “I couldn’t just leave it the way it was Braedon it wasn’t right.”

“Leave what the way it was?”

“Us.”

“There’s an us?” She asked him, “I don’t follow, the last time we exchanged any words you insinuated that I was only around you for the perks.”

He looked up at her with sad eyes, “I shouldn’t have said that, it wasn’t true and I knew it.”

“Then why did you say it?” She asked, they were still precariously close to each other but she couldn’t bring herself to move.

He couldn’t either, “Because I was jealous…” He finally said looking down again. “You got on so well with Lij and it made me mad.”

She managed a laugh; “You had Kate with you, why in the world would my interactions with Elijah make you jealous?”

“I don’t know.” He admitted, “You made me feel so comfortable and relaxed whenever I was around you. It made me jealous that I wasn’t the only one you had an affect on. What made it worse was Elijah could act on it and I couldn’t.”

“But you did.”

He sighed, “I know and I shouldn’t have. Braedon I’m sorry…” He took hold of her shoulders, “I miss you.”

She gulped and forced herself to look at him, “You said that already.”

“Well it’s true.” He smiled and let go of her, “I should have come looking for you earlier, but life got away on me.”

“Braedon I’m going to need you to go over…” Tim barged into her office then stopped when he realized she wasn’t alone. He only saw the back of Orlando’s head, “I’m sorry was there a meeting you didn’t tell me about?” He asked her sternly.

She smiled sweetly at him, “Orlando I’d like you to meet the vice-president of this firm, Timothy Johnson.”

When Orlando turned around to regard the man Braedon relished the look of shock on Tim’s face. “It’s nice to meet you.” Orlando said cordially.

“Did you know that Tim here was nice enough to inform me today that I’m not even in your realm?” She continued, now not caring if her job was on the line.

Orlando looked at her funny, “Not in my realm?” He asked, “What does that mean?” He looked back at the still shocked face staring at him.

“It means that you wouldn’t consider being acquainted with me let alone dating me because you’re so far out of my league. I’m actually not worthy of you.” She kept going.

“What?” Orlando looked back at her, “Are you fucking joking?”

She shrugged, “His words not mine.”

“Well what I meant was, seeing as you could date so many high profile women…” Tim tried to explain.

“That I wouldn’t want someone who’s down to earth and real not to mention absolutely gorgeous?” Orlando raised an eyebrow at the man.

Her ears were ringing, “Did you just say I was gorgeous?” She asked.

He looked back at her and smiled, “That I did, I could follow it with stunning, amazin’ and don’t get me started on your moves.” He put his hands on her hips, “I haven’t forgotten you know.”

She burst out laughing and put her arms around his neck both momentarily forgetting Tim was still in the room, “Is this the part where I say I forgive you and we live happily ever after?”

“Yes but I get to kiss you first.” He leaned close to her face, “It’s the law of happy endings.”

“I don’t know, maybe we should ask Tim his permission first.” She looked over at the man, “I mean you did say I wasn’t even in YOUR league didn’t you?”

“I don’t care who’s league he thinks your in if you don’t stop talking now I’m not responsible for my actions.”

Okay we can stop the cheesy ending any time now.

Come on love it’s what really happened.

Yes I know but I’m sure they can figure out what went on after that. Tim finally left the room and you kissed me.

Ah and what a kiss it was.

The beginning of the end so to speak.

You mean that in a good way right?

Of course I do baby I wouldn’t change a thing.

Good, can we maybe try and repeat that earth shattering kiss?

You know that can be arranged.

Brilliant.
