"The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
Rev 19:10b
          Is anything more interesting, or more scary than some of the prophecies of the Bible? We read the book of Revelation with its mysterious seals and trumpet plagues, great dragons, and a woman clothed with the sun and we wonder what it is all supposed to mean.
          It’s History - written in advance!

Prophecy is the outline of the overall plan of God as He KNEW it would work out. God is not playing games in prophecy. His biblical prophecies are not around to make us curious, and they are not just "secrets" given to a few.
          Actually, the prophets of God usually brought both a WITNESS and a WARNING. They were sent to confront God's people, reminding them of their great SINS and reminding them of the consequences of those sins, calling them to repent! Prophecies have a message for all of us at all times.

Important Stuff

Almost one-third of the Bible is composed of prophecy, so it is important! Also, what a great place to find out what will happen in the future.
          Many people don't realize this, but Jesus was also one of the greatest prophets of them all. His "Olivet prophecy" (Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21) provide an excellent KEY to the understanding many other prophecies. If you are interested in Biblical prophecy, I suggest you start with Jesus' words there.

Just Joking!

There was this really good pastor.  He felt that he was doing so well he needed a small vacation.  He told his congregation that he was sick, and went way out of town to play golf.  He was on the 5th hole and having a good game when an angel noticed and asked God “Why is he having a good game?  He should do really badly.”  God said “Just wait, you’ll see.”  At the last hole the pastor brought the club back and sent the ball flying right on course.  It landed near the hole, and fell in.  In seeing this, the angel was outraged and demanded to know why the pastor had had such an outstanding game.  God told the angel “Who is he going to tell?”

          A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor thy father and thy mother," she asked "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one little boy answered, "Thou shall not kill."

{1 Corinthians 10:21-24}

“Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of the devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.  Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy?  Are we stronger than he?  All things are lawful for me [the writer], but all things are not expedient: all things edify (build up) not.  Let no man seek his own, but [let] every man [seek] another’s wealth (well being).”

          The devil is real.  He isn’t confined to a place called Hell, and he isn’t running around without help.  The Bible says that Satan is looking for what he can “steal, kill and destroy”.  If we let him, he can use our own desires to destroy our lives as well as our witness as believers.  Even though, movies, games, clothes, whatever the world may offer are trendy or “in style”, it doesn’t mean that they are Godly.  This passage warns the believer not to be partners with demons.  Even though it is “lawful” for you to do something, or wear something, or be somewhere doesn’t mean it is all right.  If your actions, words, or appearance are a hindrance to others, then that hindrance is what makes those actions, words, or appearance unacceptable. Remember, God knows your heart.  He knows what your intentions are.  If your intentions are self-serving, then it doesn’t really matter what the action is.  1 John 2:16 says “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”  We have been instructed to think of others before we act, to consider our actions before we tear down our witness for Jesus, and measure every step carefully in our walk through life.  Will you do it?  “For him that knows to do good and does not do it, that is sin.” (James 4:17)
