RONIN WARRIORS
The Ancient's Poem
Torch of spirit sought through five:
Drinking strength from immortal fire,
The darkest prison sheds the light,
Churning beneath a swirl of salt,
Burning within a throne of rock,
Floating amongst the eyes of the ages,
Unmourned in the stream of the sky.
Over a thousand years ago, an evil demon known as Talpa attacked the mortal world with his army of Dynasty soldiers and Nether Spirits. It seemed as though all hope was lost until there was a showdown between Talpa and an elderly monk known as the Ancient. The Ancient won the battle, but he knew that as long as Talpa's armor still existed, he could return to the mortal world and take over. Unfortunately, the armor couldn't be destroyed and the Ancient knew that he couldn't defeat Talpa a second time. So, he melted down Talpa's massive armor and created nine separate armors. Five of the armors draw their powers from the five elements (fire, earth, air, water, and spirit), and the other four amors draw their powers from the four seasons (spring, summer, autumn, and winter). The Ancient had created a bond in all nine armors so they could be linked to their future wearers. For the elemental armors, he used the five Confucian virtues: Virtue, Justice, Wisdom, Life, and Trust. The seasonal armors' bonds were formed using the four Samurai virtues: Loyalty, Serenity, Piety, and Obedience. Since the virtues of the seasonal armors were more militant, Talpa was able to transfer them to the side of evil and presented them to his Dark Warlords: Anubis, Dais, Kale, and Sekhmet...

In the present time, Talpa feels he has nothing to fear, since he believes that the people of the mortal world no longer practice the five Confucian virtues (if that was true, the Ronin armors would be useless). So, Talpa attacks with his army, the evil Dynaasty. He later discovers five young warriors who now possess the five Ronin armors: Ryo of Wildfire, Kento of Hardrock, Cye of Torrent, Sage of Halo, and Rowen of Strata. They are called the Ronin Warriors, defenders of the mortal world, who are destined to defeat Talpa and the evil Dynasty!

First, allow me to introduce the heroes...

Ryo is the leader of the Ronin Warriors. He shows up in the first episode, "Shadow Land," walking down the street with his white tiger, White Blaze, at his side, causing a lot of chaos in Toyama. He sees himself responsible for everyone's safety, so he feels a lot of weight on his shoulders. Ryo has a bit of a temper, which he loses when one of his friends is in danger.
Ryo also possesses the armor of Inferno, a super armor created when four other armors combine with his armor of Wildfire. He uses the Soul Swords of Fervor and White Blaze transforms into Black Blaze. Ryo is an orphan. His mother died when he was very young, and his father, a wildlife photographer, was killed on an African expedition. Ryo currently lives with his grandmother.

Sage is also known as the "Warrior of Light." He is pretty quiet and often keeps to himself during the battle with Talpa. Sage is into nature and likes to meditate. In high school, however, he's a completely different person. Sage has a title as "The Flirting King of Han`a High." He flirts with the girls, and all the girls love him. Sage's father is Japanese, and his mother is American. He obviously got the looks from his mother. Sage lives with his parents in a house with an attached dojo, where his father teaches martial arts. Sage has two sisters, according to the OVAs.

Cye is considered the shy one, and is the oldest of the Ronin Warriors. He's a good listener and very trustworthy. Cye is an excellent cook, and his best friend is Kento. He's originally from England. Like Ryo, Cye lost his father as well, only his father died when he was just a baby. Cye lives with his mother and older sister, who run a pottery shop together.

Kento is a bit thickheaded. He's always looking for a fight, and welcomes one with open arms. Kento loves to eat, and that's pretty much how he became frineds with Cye. His family moved to Toyama from America, and they run a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, Yokohama.

Rowen is the brains behind the Ronin Warriors. He's also the youngest of the five warriors. Rowen is considered a super genius, especially since he has an IQ of 250. Because of this, he's often hounded in school for being so intelligent. Rowen's parents divorced when he was young, and he now lives with his mother. He also has this annoying habit of sleeping in late, even on school days.
Now, let me introduce the bad guys...
TALPA (ARAGO)
Talpa is the ruler of the Evil Dynasty. He draws his dark powers from the hatred, fear, and the other dark emotions of the people he has captured. Talpa's army consists of Dynasty soldiers, which are run-of-the-mill soldiers that are easily destroyed by the Ronin Warriors, Nether Spirits, and his four Dark Warlords. Talpa also has a secret weapon that he uses when Ryo and Rowen are the only ones left after the others have been captured by the Dark Warlords.
Name: Anubis (Shuten Doji)
Birthday: May 15, 1551
Astrology Sign: Taurus
Armor: Cruelty
Element: Spring/Ogre
Kanji: Loyalty (Chu)
Weapon: Sickle with Chain
Attack: Quake With Fear
Anubis was originally the leader of the Dark Warlords until, after talking with the Ancient, he realized that Talpa was using him only for his power all those years. He became enlightened and took on the role of the Ancient after the monk had sacrificed himself to create a gateway to Talpa's castle. As the Ancient, Anubis helped the Ronin Warriors return to Talpa's castle and battled the three Dark Warlords in his armor of Cruelty. He eventually sacrificed himself in order to free Lady Kayura.
Name: Sekhmet (Naaza)
Birthday: October 8, 1551
Astrology Sign: Libra
Armor: Venom
Element: Autumn/Snake
Kanji: Piety (Ko)
Weapon: Six Taichi Blades
Attack: Snake Fang Strike
Sekhmet, the Warlord of Venom, prefers brute strength over strategy. Using his armor of Venom, Sekhmet can create vast amounts of acidic venom that can slowly disintegrate the Ronin armors. His main adversary is Cye of Torrent, since his venom spreads so quickly through the water, and Cye doesn't like the fact that Sekhmet's venom kills all the fish and other sea creatures.
Name: Kale (Anubis)
Birthday: December 3, 1550
Astrology Sign: Sagittarius
Armor: Corruption
Element: Winter/Panther
Kanji: Obedience (Tei)
Weapon: Sword of Darkness
Attack: Black Lightning Strike
Kale, the Warlord of Corruption, feeds off the darkness and calls upon its power when he's in battle. Like a panther, he can see in the dark and uses this to his advantage to strike out at his victims. His main adversary is Sage of Halo. It makes sense since Kale is also known as the Demon of Darkness, and Sage is also known as the Warrior of Light.
Name: Dais (Rajura)
Birthday: September 19, 1549
Astrology Sign: Virgo
Armor: Illusion
Element: Summer/Spider
Kanji: Serenity (Nin)
Weapon: Chi Lin Tou
Attack: Web of Deception
Dais, the Warlord of Illusion, has the agility of a spider and often hangs upside-down when he encounters the Ronin Warriors. He has the ability to create powerful illusions that look so real that anyone could be easily fooled into falling for his traps. Dais' main adversary is Kento of Hardrock.
Name: Lady Kayura (Kayura)
Birthday: December 12, 1559
Astrology Sign: Sagittarius
Weapon: Twin Star Swords
Attack: Star Sword Scream
Lady Kayura is Talpa's "secret weapon" against the Ronin Warriors. They discover later on, along with Anubis, that Lady Kayura is a descendant of the Ancient's clan. Talpa killed off the remainder of the clan, kidnapped Kayura as a young girl, and brainwashed and trained her into one of his Warlords. The pendent she wears around her neck is the source of Talpa's control over her. After Anubis sacrificed himself to save her, Kayura wears his armor of Cruelty and uses the Ancient's staff to battle Talpa. After Talpa was finally defeated, she returns to the Netherworld, along with the three reformed Warlords.
Here are some other important characters from the "Ronin Warriors" TV series:
MIA COJI (NASUTEI YAGYU)

Mia is the granddaughter of Dr. Coji, a professor at the local university in Toyama who studies ancient Japanese myths and legends. When Dr. Coji recognizes Ryo on the news broadcast as one of the Ronin Warriors, Mia goes out to Toyama to get him. She is very helpful to the Ronin Warriors. Mia knew the poem that revealed the locations of the five warriors when they were separated by Talpa. She also had the information on the armor of Inferno, the Swords of Fervor, and the Jewel of Life from her grandfather's research. According to the OVAs, there's something going on between Mia and Ryo, despite that Mia's about three years older than him.
YULI YAMANO (JUN YAMANO)

Yuli is the only person left from Toyama after Talpa took everyone. He's worried about his parents, who were also taken by Talpa. Yuli wants to help the Ronin Warriors battle Talpa, but he normally gets in their way a lot. For some reason, Yuli is the only one who can activate the Jewel of Life.
THE ANCIENT (KAOS)

The Ancient is an elderly monk who fought Talpa over a thousand years ago and created the nine separate armors from Talpa's massive armor. He convinces Anubis, the Dark Warlord of Cruelty, that Talpa has been using him all those years and was only interested in his armor. The Ancient sacrificed himself in order to create a bridge to Talpa's castle. Although he is dead, the Ancient's spirit still helps the Ronin Warriors.
WHITE BLAZE (BYAKUEN)

White Blaze is Ryo's loyal pet tiger. He is always by his master's side in battle as himself, or as Black Blaze when Ryo is in his armor of Inferno.
