Guardian of The Forest
Running through the forest,
Panic setting in,
Darkness falling rapidly,
I should be safe within.
Lost am I, alone and cold,
A howling splits the night,
I trip and fall and when I look
Twin amber orbs shine clear and bright.
My heart beats wildly in my chest,
My breath is quick and shallow,
I scramble backwards, my escape
Is blocked, overgrown and narrow.
Walking slowly towards me,
The wolf it holds my gaze,
In my head then come the words,
"My dear, be not afraid."
"The forest is a fearful place,
When one so delicate is lost,
It is my place to keep you safe,
Whatever be the cost."
"Follow me and I will lead
You safely to your door.
Trust me child, it is my fate,
I have led you once before."
My thoughts looked back
Upon a time, many years ago.
When lost within this forest,
I knew not where to go.
I dreamed a wolf had saved me,
One delicate, warm and kind,
Who's eyes they shone like amber,
Who spoke straight to my mind.
I heard its lonely howling,
A sad and plaintive cry,
And as it led me from the forest,
I never questioned why.
Guardian may take many forms,
They light and lead the way.
When danger lurks in darkness,
And from the path we stray.
